S Tier Characters
Peach
- Best all-around character with excellent support abilities, useful debuffs, and high attack power, especially towards the game’s late stages.
- Access to a variety of essential recovery skills to heal or remove status ailments.
- Has powerful tools to inflict sleep or mute which are useful throughout the game.
Peach is essentially the game’s best character, owing to her unrivaled versatility in all encounters from the time you recruit her well until the post-game stages. Having her in the party grants you excellent survivability as her healing skills can restore massive amounts of HP while having very reasonable FP cost. This makes Peach a staple in all tough encounters, especially in the new post-game boss rematches.
Once Peach obtains the Frying Pan (her best weapon) during the game’s late stages, she gains very high damage potential with normal attacks on par with Mario. You will then have a character that is able to fill any role effectively regardless of the situation in battle.

A Tier Characters
- Powerful attacker with access to both physical and magic skills, granting you different approaches to offense
- High overall stats with good survivability throughout the game.
- Learns strong multi-target attacks during the later stages, making him better at clearing mobs than before.
Mario represents the stereotypical “all-around” fighter of the party, combining both physical and magic offense while also enjoying high durability. His stats are all generally very good as well, letting him fit the “hero” archetype even more.
Mario’s only drawbacks are lack of any reliable ways to heal HP. He also does not learn any multi-target attacks until later on. Because of this, try to have other characters compensate for what Mario cannot do in battle.
As you progress through the game, try to use Jump as often as possible as the ability gains increased effectiveness the more Mario does it. Jump becomes one of Mario’s best offensive moves during the late stages at the cost of very little FP.

B Tier Characters
Geno
- The only character with an all-in-one attack and defense buff in the game.
- Most special skills have very good damage and effectiveness while having low FP cost.
- Access to neutral (non-elemental) special moves that are not affected by enemy resistances
What makes Geno unique among other characters is that all of his special moves deal neutral damage. This means that he can ignore enemy resistances and almost always deal consistent numbers when using his abilities.
Among Geno’s skills, his Geno Boost is arguably his best as it grants both an attack and defense both to allies. You will find yourself relying on this ability a lot during boss battles, though you can opt to use items to gain buffs and have Geno focus on dealing damage instead.

C Tier Characters
Mallow
- Special Move-focused character (mage) relying on FP to be effective
- Access to multi-target attacks with elemental attributes to exploit enemy weaknesses
- Has low physical attack power and HP
Mallow is the party’s token mage character who mostly uses Special Moves with different attributes to target all enemies. Mallow can also use support abilities to heal allies, though not as effectively as Peach can later in the game. During the early stages, Mallow will usually cover offensive duties that Mario is poor at.
Mallow’s usability somewhat falls off towards the end-game, mostly only being effective at exploiting elemental weaknesses during boss battles. Mallow’s low HP may also require you to constantly use items or healing skills when enemies focus their attacks on him too often.
Despite this, Mallow resurfaces as a powerful ally in the battle against the hidden superboss Culex thanks to the Nimbus Prince’s command of different elemental magic. Mallow’s ability to use healing skills further improves your survivability against Culex’s hard-hitting attacks, granting Mallow added utility throughout the fight.

Bowser
- Highest damage output using normal attacks out of all characters (early to mid game).
- Access to a multi-target Fear debuff skill (cuts target’s attack power and defense by half) that is useful against regular enemies and bosses.
- His best equipment do not offer as much benefits compared to those of other characters.
Bowser boasts the highest attack power even with just his normal attacks during the early to mid game stages. His main contribution to the team, however, will be in the form of inflicting Fear on enemies using his Terrorize ability.
Since Bowser will only need FP to use his debuff, you can reserve the resource for other characters’ use in battle.
Bowser mostly shines during the early to middle stages of the game thanks to his high overall stats. As with Mallow, his presence in encounters becomes somewhat less advantageous in the late- and post-game stages. This is due most to most of Bowser’s end-game equipment being simply inferior to those of other characters. You will eventually find Bowser’s performance (apart from his debuff) to be subpar in both offense and defense once his allies have learned all their abilities and are decked out with their best gear.
