Steps to Get the Shiny Stone

1 Progress through Mole Mines until you get the third Star Piece (after defeating Punchinello).

3 Go to the Mole girl’s shop and trade the Fireworks for the Shiny Stone.

What is the Shiny Stone?

Key item required to battle 2D Culex (optional superboss) at Monstro Town.

Super Mario RPG Remake - Shiny Stone

The Shiny Stone is a key item you need to enter the sealed door in Monstro Town where the superboss 2D Culex is found. Defeating Culex is no small feat as he is significantly more challenging to take down than Smithy, the final boss of the main story.

A more powerful version of Culex called Culex 3D can also be fought in Monstro Town as a post-game Boss Rematch battle. Similar to the original superboss, you will need a key item called Extra Shiny Stone to battle Culex in his enhanced form.

Defeating Culex 2D rewards you with the Quartz Charm.

After beating Culex, you will be rewarded with the Quartz Charm, one of the best accessories in the game. The item increases the user’s damage output by 50% while reducing damage taken by the same percentage. Status ailments, including instant death, are also nullified when using the Quartz Charm.
