Yoshi Race Mini Game Guide for Super Mario RPG Remake
Mini Game Overview
The Yoshi Race mini game (Yoshi Derby) in Super Mario Remake RPG lets you engage in two types of Yoshi racing events to win Yoshi Cookies. The two events of the Yoshi Race mini game are the manual and the auto race.
How to Unlock Yoshi Race Mini Game (Yoshi Derby)
Becomes available after reaching Yo’ster Isle.
The Yoshi Race mini game becomes available once you gain access to Yo’ster Isle by defeating Bowyer and obtaining the second Star Piece.
The first race will be a one-on-one battle against Boshi, the fastest Yoshi on the isle. After you defeat him, you can participate in any of the two race types mentioned as many times as you like as long as you have Yoshi Cookies to bet.
How to Win Yoshi Races
Manual Race Tips
The manual Yoshi Race, as its name implies, requires you to operate Mario as he rides Yoshi. To move forward, you must press the A and B buttons alternatingly in a consistent rhythm. You can use the BGM as a guide on the correct tempo to hit each button after the other to win the race.
If you find Yoshi to be lagging behind the other racers, try increasing your rhythm during the race and see if you can catch up.
Auto Race Tips
Since this event is based entirely on luck, it is recommended to save outside Yo’ster Isle before betting your Yoshi Cookies in the race. If you lose all of your betting items, just load your save and try again.
Yoshi Race Mini Game Rewards
The main rewards for winning Yoshi Races are Yoshi Cookies which are a special type of consumable item with a variety of uses in the game. The more Yoshi Cookies you bet, the higher the rewards in kind you get from the manual and auto race as well.
How to Use Yoshi Cookies
Used to bet in Yoshi Races.
As already mentioned, Yoshi Cookies are the currency you use to participate in manual or auto Yoshi Races. If you run out of cookies, just talk to Red Yoshi to get one (1).
Can be fed to Baby Fat.
After you defeat Bundt and Raspberry in Marrymore, a baby Yoshi named Baby Fat will appear in Yo’ster Isle. Giving a total of 30 Yoshi Cookies to the infant lizard will cause him to turn into Fat Yoshi who will reward you with items based on how many more of the treats you give him.
Can be fed to Fat Yoshi
As mentioned above, giving Baby Fat more Yoshi Cookies after he turns into Fat Yoshi lets you receive useful rewards depending on how many you have fed him. Be sure to give the number of cookies listed below in one go or you will not receive the rewards listed.
Any number of Yoshi Cookies given, however, will count towards getting the Frog Coin reward (a total of 50 cookies fed to Fat Yoshi).
|Yoshi Cookies Given||Rewards|
|10 or More at Once||Yoshi-Ade, Red Essence, Energizer, Bracer|
|20 or More at Once||Red Essence|
|A Total of 50||Frog Coin|
Can be used in battle to summon Yoshi.
Lastly, Yoshi Cookies can be used to call Yoshi in battle. An enemy that Yoshi targets will be turned into items (including rare ones like Rock Candy), though you will not receive any EXP or Coins at the end of the fight.
