Dodo Statues Guide for Super Mario RPG Remake
Event Overview
The Dodo Statues event in Super Mario RPG Remake occurs during the main story in Nimbus Castle which requires you to avoid getting hit by Dodo as he pecks at the golden statues of the castle hallway.
How to Unlock Dodo Statue Event
Automatically triggered as part of the main story.
The Dodo Statue event is part of the game’s main story once you reach Nimbus Castle during the hunt for the sixth Star Piece. The event, therefore, is unmissable.

How to Clear Dodo Statues Event
Dodge Dodo as he pecks at you.
Dodo will appear in the hallway while Mario is pretending to be a gold statue. The fattened avian will be in a bad mood and will then start to peck at each golden statue (starting from the left and then back up again). Press the B button at the right time to dodge his beak.
Dodo will try to peck at you three (3) times. His first two attempts can have the same timing to them while the third comes out much faster.
Clear the event within two (2) tries.
You have a total of two (2) tries to avoid getting caught by Dodo. If you fail, a boss battle against him will commence which prevents you from getting the unique reward tied to his event.
Tips for Dodging Dodo’s Peck
Save before proceeding.
Be sure to save your game just before the mini game begins at Nimbus Castle so you can restart the event if you fail.
Listen to the music to time the first two attempts on you.
Dodo’s first two attempts at pecking at you can easily be dodged by listening to the music that plays. Observe how he pecks the real statues and the BMG and you will notice the right window he lunges his head forward (around the time that the cymbals ring in the music).
Dodo will also take 3 steps to get in front of each statue for his first two attempts at you. This means that you can try and counting three beats in the music after he pecks at a statue before jumping on the fourth beat to dodge him.
Dodging his third attempt.
Dodo’s third attempt on you comes out faster than the ones he does on his first and second. Once he is done pecking at the statue to your left (after you dodge his second attempt), he will start looking around and run in front of you. There is also a noticeable change in the music when his third “surprise” peck is coming up.
Dodo will still pull his head back to wind-up his attack so it is possible to dodge his third attempt on reaction. If you get hit, you will still have another chance to avoid getting caught. Just reload your save if you use up all your tries and start over.
Dodo Statue Rewards
Rewards Feather (accessory).
Clearing the Dodo Statue event without getting caught and fighting Dodo lets you obtain the Feather accessory in the room where Dodo appears from. This piece of equipment provides its wearer with some useful stat bonuses but is particularly useful for increasing a character’s speed stat.
Name | Stats | Price | Description and Effects |
---|---|---|---|
Feather | Defense +5, Mg.Defense +5, Speed +20 | Sell: 333 coins | Speed up by 20. |
If you did not get the Feather accessory by failing the event, you will be able to buy it later at the Treasure Hunting Toad’s shop at Moleville (remake version only).

Not getting caught by Dodo also lets you avoid the optional boss fight against him at the castle. You will, however, need to defeat him when he joins up with Valentina as part of the main story.
