Grate Guy’s Casino Guide for Super Mario RPG Remake
What is Grate Guy’s Casino?
Grate Guy’s Casino is an optional area in Super Mario RPG Remake that lets you play different mini games to earn various rewards, including rare items that cannot be obtained elsewhere in the game.
How to Unlock Grate Guy’s Casino
Can be accessed from Bean Valley after obtaining the Bright Card.
You can enter Grate Guy’s Casino once you the Bright Card, a special items given by Knife Guy after you clear his guessing game at the sixth floor of Booster Tower.
Getting the Bright Card
After clearing Booster Tower, return to the area and climb up to the sixth floor. You should find Knife Guy juggling some colored balls. Talk to him and he will let you play a game that requires you to guess which of his hands is holding the yellow ball.
Once you guess right 10 times, he will give you the Bright Card.
How to Find Grate Guy’s Casino
After getting the Bright Card, head to Bean Valley and progress through the area. When you reach the map with five pipes inhabited by Smilax, head for the one to the north (defeat the Smilax first).
Go down the pipe once the Smilax is defeated. At the underground area, go around the bend and take down the Gold Chain Chomp at the end. Then, stand in the corner of what seems like a dead end. Jump three times to make a yellow platform appear above.
Jump on the platform to reach the ledge. Then, take the exit to the north to get back to the world map. From there, you can now go to Grate Guy’s Casino.
Grate Guy’s Casino Mini Games
Prize Blocks
The Prize Blocks mini game can be played by talking to the Toad at the left of the room. You simply need to hit the treasure box above to get a trio of matching icons (Mushroom, Star, and Flower) to win a prize.
You must pay 10 Coins to play one round of the Prize Blocks.
Look This Way
Talking to Grate Guy lets you play the Look This Way mini game which simply requires you to face the direction opposite to where the clown is pointing to. This is mainly a game of chance as your odds of guessing right is 50-50.
Among the rewards obtained for the Look This Way mini game is the rare Star Egg item (given by Grate Guy once you win 100 times). The Star Egg can be used in battle an infinite number of times to deal 100 damage to all enemies, making it a useful tool for clearing out weak mobs fast.
Aside from the Star Egg, you can also win Rock Candy, Red Essence, Croak Cola, Royal Syrup, and Mushroom from the mini game.
You are not required to pay Coins to play the Look This Way mini game so feel free to spend time on it as long as you like.
Memory Game
Finally, the Memory Game can be played by talking to the dealer toad at the table. For this game, you just need to pick a face-down card that contains the character that the dealer dictates (after showing you all card faces once). Give the correct answer three times to win a prize.
For an easier time with this mini game, you can simply take a picture of the card faces at the start with your smartphone.
