Super Mario RPG Remake New Features and Changes from the Original Version
New Features
Damage all enemies by timing your attack perfectly using action commands.
In Super Mario RPG Remake battles, new “Action Commands” have been added. If you time your attack perfectly on an Action Command during your normal attack, you will be able to damage all enemies. Before the remake, there was no normal attack that could damage all enemies, so getting perfect timing on the Action Command when performing a normal attack becomes important in battle.
Raise the Triple Move gauge with successful Action Commands.
A new Triple Move gauge has also been implemented in battles of Super Mario RPG Remake. You can fill the gauge by successfully completing attack and defense Action Commands.
Unleash Triple Moves when the gauges is full.
When the gauge fills up to 100%, you can use a powerful attack called a Tripe Move with all three party members. The Triple Move changes depending on the composition of your team. While additional details on Triple Moves have not been revealed, it is likely that the power, attributes, additional effects, and other elements will differ based on the active members of your party.
Raise Chain with successful Action Commands.
Super Mario RPG also introduces a new “Chain” mechanic during combat. Successfully performing attack and defense Action Commands will increase the number of Chains that will activate various buffs, including stat boosts, that grant your party the advantage in battle.
Changes from the Original Version
New Graphics
Super Mario RPG Remake features completely new graphics. Along with Mario and his allies, enemies and locations have been completely redesigned, allowing you to enjoy the experience the remake through modern visuals.
New Cutscenes
New cutscenes have also been added in Super Mario RPG Remake. Boss intro cinematics and story sequences of various events that were not in the original version offer a richer sense of adventure as you go through the game’s main story.
New Song Arrangements
Super Mario RPG Remake also features new song arrangements from the game’s original composer Yoko Shimomura. As confirmed in her official Twitter account, Ms. Shimomura handled all new arrangements of all of the songs. Players will be able to listen to popular tracks like “Beware the Forest’s Mushrooms” in the remake.
HP and FP are displayed at the bottom of the screen.
In Super Mario RPG Remake, HP and FP indicators for each party member are displayed at the bottom of the screen, allowing you to easily check them. In the old version, HP bars were placed in the upper left of the screen and FP was fixed separately on the magic attack selection screen.
Weakness attributes are visualized.
When attacking with an enemy’s weak attribute, “Weakness” will be displayed alongside the move’s resulting damage numbers. This makes it easier to identify which attacks are the most effective to use against different types of enemies in the game.
Before the remake, enemy vulnerability could only be identified by the damage values they inflicted.
Post-game boss battles have been added.
After clearing the game, you can do a rematch with some of the bosses encountered throughout the main story. Be warned that these post-game bosses will be much stronger than the ones you fought previously.
