Horde
A horde is a collective term for a huge colony of Swarmers, consists of between 50 to 500 freakers. The difference between a horde and a freakers’ nest is that, not only do they vastly outnumber the latter, but they migrate to different areas. The game holds a total of 40 challenging hordes.
How to Survive
The trick to handling a horde is to understand the hive mind. Since the group is made of Freakers, you can analyze their behavior by looking at how one Freaker reacts to environmental changes. During the mornings, the horde will tend to gather in caves to hibernate. Being nocturnal creatures, the horde will move to mass graves at night to feast on flesh. They will eventually visit natural water sources to hydrate themselves.
Upgrades
Mornings can give Deacon some time to stockpile upgrades so that he can carry more ammunition into encounters. Not only should you gather supplies but also bank on buffing your stamina to outrun them later on.
Understand your Environment
Learn to adapt to the terrain to discover vantage points. It can be easy to flank them by camping at the cave’s entrance. You know they will all come out from a single passage and not surprise you from behind. Pay attention to the region’s weather, as this will impact the horde’s behavior.
