Days Gone - Game Guide and Walkthrough

How to defeat hordes

Progressing far enough into the game, you will inevitably face hordes that are far more challenging than run-of-the-mill encounters. You need to adjust a number of things to increase your chances of survival.

Equipment

Use weapons with high bullet capacity

When dealing with hordes, you need to bring weapons that carry a large number of bullets. Weapons such as the Chicago chopper have a high firing rate, which makes them suitable for these encounters. Other weapons like the US556 and the special weapon RPD also come in handy.

Craft napalm molotovs

The napalm molotov, a powerful throwable type weapon, is unlocked during the story mission “You Alone I Have Seen.” Once you unlock the crafting recipe, make as much as you can to prepare for the imminent horde encounters.

Environment

Remember the placement of explosive objects

Explosive objects such as oil drums are scattered around the area where a horde is found. While on the run, make sure to lure the horde to these spots as catching them inside the radius of the blast not only immensely thins them out, but also saves you some bullets.

Guide them to the bottleneck

Familiarize with the map where a horde appears as there are narrow paths suitable for flanking them. Napalm molotovs work best when thrown at a horde that pursues you in a single file line since the fire spreads across to the other enemies.

Climb up the roof

When your stamina is critically low, immediately climb to the roof. Not only does resting on the roof help you regain your stamina, but it also temporarily slows down the enemies. This can buy you some time for you to plan your next move.

Recommended skills

Melee

Just Roll With It

This melee skill is handy when you’re on the run since it significantly reduces the stamina consumed when doing quick rolls. Having that extra stamina could save your hide.

Ranged

Up The Ante

You need to have a higher capacity for your weapons’ magazines because horde encounters are more common during the late game. Learn to stockpile ammo by searching areas thoroughly and make every bullet count to help increase your chances of survival when the hordes come.

Two Birds, One Stone

Another ranged skill that is essential during combat. You can take out multiple enemies with this skill since your bullets gain a piercing effect. Pair this skill with the RPD and the MG45 to efficiently thin out enemies.

Survival

Catch Your Breath

This skill helps you keep up with the horde since it lessens stamina cooldown time.

Carry That Weight

Having this skill grants you a higher carrying capacity for craft materials and throwables which works in tandem when using molotovs.

Shape Up

Your stamina replenishes faster after each use to ensure that you outrun the horde.

Six Feet Over

Invest in this skill since it works as a contingent when you fail to dodge an enemy’s attack. You earn stamina after sustaining an enemy’s attack, allowing you to dodge the next attack.
