List of Cast Members Revealed in Death Stranding
Below is a breakdown of actors revealed so far in the trailers for Death Stranding. This includes famous roles they played in films, television series, or other video games.
Norman Reedus as Sam “Porter” Bridges
Norman Reedus plays as the main protagonist, Sam. He works for the Bridges company as a delivery man. He is also seen in possession of a Bridge Baby, which enables him to “plug into the other side” and temporarily see BTs, the enemy shadow creatures.
Norman Reedus is an American actor best known for his role in The Walking Dead series (2010-present) portraying Daryl Dixon. This is the second time for Norman to work with Death Stranding’s director, designer, producer, and writer, Hideo Kojima. They previously worked together in Konami’s canceled reboot of Silent Hill.
Mads Mikkelsen as Cliff
Mads Mikkelsen provides the voice, appearance, and motion capture for Cliff. Based on the pre-release trailers, he is seen as an antagonist and rival to Sam. He is seen capable of commanding a small group of skeletal soldiers with glowing eyes.
Mads Mikkelsen is a popular Danish actor and recognized for his work in the Hannibal series (2013-2015) and Casino Royale (2016.) He is also known for his roles in Marvel’s Doctor Strange (2016) and Rogue One: A Star War Story (2016).
Guillermo del Toro and Jessie Corti as Deadman
Guillermo del Toro provides the appearance while Jessie Corti provides the voice and motion capture for the Bridges company affiliate, Deadman. His previous character trailer revealed that Deadman works at the Bridge Baby (BB) lab and teaches Sam how to recalibrate his BB and reduce its stress level.
Guillermo del Toro is a famous film director, producer, screenwriter, and novelist. His notable works include Blade II (2002), Hellboy (2004), Pan’s Labyrinth (2006), Hellboy II (2008), Pacific Rim (2013), and The Shape of Water (2017). He also collaborated before in the canceled reboot of Silent Hill and helped introduced Norman Reedus to Hideo Kojima.
As for Jessie Corti, he is both an American actor and voice actor best known for his voicing of LeFou in Beauty and the Beast (1991). When it comes to video games. he is a recurring voice actor for the Metal Gear Solid and Uncharted series.
Lindsay Wagner as Amelie and Bridget
Lindsay Wagners plays two roles in Death Stranding: Amelie and Bridget. Amelie is the current president of the United Cities of America and a leader of a project aimed to connect the Chiral Network. In her recent TGS trailer, she is seen as a projection speaking to Sam that convinces him to make a pilgrimage to the west and help connect the Chiral Network.
As Bridget, she is seen as lying in a hospital bed pleading for Sam to help “make America whole.” She believes that if people don’t come together post-death stranding, humanity will not survive. It is theorized that Amelie and Bridget are the same character from different timelines.
As an American actress, Lindsay Wagner is famous for her portrayal of Jaime Sommers in the American science fiction TV series The Bionic Woman (1976-1978). She has already worked with Hideo Kojima in a game called Snatcher (1988), providing the visual likeness of the main character’s wife.
Léa Seydoux as Fragile
Fragile also works in the delivery business but in an executive role, unlike Sam. She is seen sporting a jacket with spikes in the case of BT attacks. She comes into contact with Sam and warns him about the BTs occupying their surroundings. Fragile was later seen captured by Higgs and the Homo Demens in a ruined urban area. Higgs proceeded to lick her face when a storm began to form in the area.
Léa Seydoux is a French actress famous for her performance in The Beautiful Person (2008), Belle Épine (2010), and Farewell My Queen (2012). She has also appeared in major Hollywood films such as Inglorious Basterds (2009), Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (2011), Spectre (2015), and Isle of Dogs (2018).
Margaret Qualley as Mama
Mama is another main character in Death Stranding. She is also affiliated with the Bridges company but has a different symbol than the standard one. She reveals that she has a daughter that was born on the “other side” and manifests itself as a BT. Mama’s BT is connected to her via an ethereal umbilical cord fixed to the Bridges compound. This makes her unable to leave the compound.
Mama is played by American actress, dancer, and model, Margaret Qualley. Margaret is best known for her role in HBO’s television series The Leftovers. Also, she starred in the 2017 Netflix film adaptation of Death Note.
Nicolas Winding Refn and Darren Jacobs as Heartman
Heartman is another person working in the Bridges company. Nicolas Winding Refn provides the appearance while Darren Jacobs provides the motion capture and voice for the character. In his character trailer, Heartman reveals that his heart stops every 21 minutes. While dead, he searches for his family “on the other side” for three minutes before he is resurrected by a device on his chest called an Automated External Defibrillator (AED).
Nicolas Winding Refn is a Danish film director, screenwriter, and producer. He is known for the film Drive (2011), Only God Forgives (2013), and The Neon Demon (2016).
Darren Jacobs is known for his work in Men in Black: International (2019). He also did voice work in other video games like Dragon Age: Inquisition and Smite.
Heartman Character Information
Tommie Earl Jenkins as Die-Hardman
Die-Hardman is the commander of the Bridges company working under Amelie. When Amelie gets captured by the Homo Demens, he helped in convincing Sam to continue his expedition to the west connecting all cities to the Chiral Network.
Die-Hardman’s likeness, voice, and motion capture are all portrayed by Tommie Earl Jenkins. He is an American actor, voice actor, musician, and stage performer known for his work on Go Jetters (2015-present), a 3D animated British children’s television series, and Jersey Boys (2005), a jukebox stage musical. As for video games, he previously worked in Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire, Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire, and Fallout 76.
Die-Hardman Character Information
Troy Baker as Higgs
Higgs was revealed as another antagonist character in Death Stranding. He is part of a militant separatist group called Homo Demens. One of the group’s objectives is to maintain the independence of Edge Knot City and to prevent the Bridges from connecting their city to the Chiral Network. Higgs has the ability to manifest a black, four-legged creature and control the weather to some degree.
Troy Baker portrays Higgs in voice, appearance, and motion capture. He is considered one of the most renowned voice actors in the video game industry. His voice work includes Tales of Vesperia, Persona 4, Final Fantasy XIII series, The Last of Us, BioShock Infinite, Batman: Arkham series, and Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End.
Geoff Keighley and Matthew Mercer as LUDENS Fan
LUDENS Fan is considered more of a cameo since the character’s likeness is based from Hideo Kojima’s friend, Geoff Keighley. LUDENS Fan is a Prepper, a type of hologram that accepts and gives delivery jobs. According to Kojima, there will be other Ludes Fans that will feature his other friends and associates in Death Stranding.
Geoff Keighley is recognized as the host and producer of The Game Awards. Also, he previously hosted E3 2018 and lead the opening night of Gamescom 2019.
In terms of voice and motion capture, LUDENS Fan was portrayed by Matthew Mercer, a famous animation and video game voice actor. His voice work includes World of Warcraft, Overwatch, the Persona game series, the Batman: Arkham series, the Fire Emblem game series, and the Kingdom Hearts game series.
