New Features in the Game
There are some new features in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon that players can experience from the moment they start playing. These features include new moves added to the Z-Ring, the Battle Agent, the Alola Photo Club, and the Totem Stickers.
Exclusive New Z Moves!
The Z-Ring is a feature returning from Pokemon Sun and Moon. Players may have noticed that not all Pokemon have Z-Moves, but with the release of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon some new Z-moves have been introduced. Particularly, the legendary Pokemon Lunala and Solgaleo have two new Z moves each. Also, Lycanroc and Jangmo-o have also each gained exclusive Z-moves:
- Jangmo-o – Jangmo-o‘s newest Z-move, Clangorous Soulblaze, becomes available to the player when they use Kommonium Z. It launches a multi-hit attack against its opponents before boosting all of its stats by one stage.
- Lunala – Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom is Lunala’s latest Z-move. While dealing damage, Lunala’s Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom ignores the opposing pokemon’s ability. For Lunala to use the Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom Z-move, Lunala must know Moongeist Beam while holding Lunalium Z. The player must also be wearing the Z-Power Ring. This Z-move also works for Dawn Wings Necrozma.
- Solgaleo – While holding Solganium Z and having the move Sunsteel Strike, Solgaleo can use the Z-Move Searing Sunraze Smash. Searing Sunraze Smash works similarly to Lunala’s Menacing Moonraze Maelstrom, ignoring the opposing Pokemon’s ability. The Z-move also becomes available to Dusk Mane Necrozma with the same conditions.
- Lycanroc – Lycanroc‘s Dusk Form has a new Z-move known as Splintered Stormshards. While Splintered Storm Shards deal damage, it also has a terrain removal ability which works well against Pokemon like Tapu Koko. However, for this Z-move to work, Lycanroc must know Stone Edge while holding a Lycanium-Z crystal.
Rotom (Pokedex Form) with New Mechanics
Another of the new features in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon is Rotom (Pokedex Form) having more interactive elements. The players can communicate with Rotom (Pokedex Form), its personality changing depending on the player’s responses. Also, once the player raises the happiness to a certain amount, Rotom (Pokedex Form) will be able ot use its own Z-move once per battle. Becoming closer to Rotom also unlocks the Rotom Lotto feature where you can get certain items that help you breed Pokemon faster or hatch eggs faster.
Mantine Surf
Pokemon Sun and Moon introduced the Poke Ride function. Now, in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon, there’s a new Pokemon for the Poke Ride. While Sharpedo and Lapras were the initial water-based transport pokemon, Mantine appears as a third. But wait, there’s more: Mantine Surf is not limited to mobility, but also has a mini-game. Players can perform tricks while surfing on Mantine, earning points for more complicated tricks.
Battle Agent
The Battle Agent is a new feature in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon where players can rent a powerful Pokemon before engaging in a battle. In this battle, it’s a 3 v 3 match that’s divided into singles matches. The goal is relatively simple: knock out all three opposing pokemon before they knock out yours. But be warned, the difficulty of the trainer scales with the level of the Pokemon you rented out.
Alola Photoclub
Another of the new features in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon is the Alola Photoclub. In Pokemon Sun and Moon, players were able to take pictures of Pokemon in particular areas. With this new function, players can not only take pictures but also send them to friends. Another benefit is that the Pokemon in the picture increase their happiness level. This can help evolving those Pokemon who require a high happiness level.
Collecting Totem Stickers
Totem Stickers are also among the new features in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon. Scattered all over the Alola Islands, the Totem Stickers are collected by players in order to unlock the new Totem-sized Pokemon. Players will gain Pokemon depending on the number of stickers they have collected. However, some totem Pokemon such as Lurantis and Salazzle are only available in Pokemon Sun and Moon respectively.
