Useful Abilities with Field Effects

Abilities that have an effect outside of battle are categorized as Field Effect abilities.

Stench

When the Pokemon with the Stench ability leads the party, the chance of wild Pokemon to appear will be halved. Other abilities such as “White Smoke” and “Quick Feet” offer the same effect.

Bear in mind that these abilities do not stack when used in conjunction with the item “Cleanse Tag,” “Pure Incense,” repels, and flutes.

Arena Trap

The effect of Arena Trap is the opposite to that of Stench since instead of halving the encounter rate, it doubles the appearance of Wild Pokemon.

Using any of the following items: “Cleanse Tag,” “Pure Incense,” or one of the flutes cancels out the effect of Arena Trap.

Intimidate

If you place a Pokemon with the Intimidate ability on the first slot of your party and it has a higher level than the wild Pokemon that appear on that location, it will decrease the chance for them to appear.

If you place a Pokemon with the ability Suction Cups on the first slot of the party, you gain a higher chance of encounter during fishing.

Another similar ability is “Sticky Hold.”

Magnet Pull

If you lead the party with a Pokemon that has this ability, the chance of encountering a wild steel-type Pokemon will increase.

White Smoke

This ability offers the same field effect as that of Stench and Quick Feet.

By leading the party with a Pokemon that has this ability, the chance of finding a Pokemon with the same nature as the lead will increase by 50%.

Sand Veil

Static

If you lead a Pokemon with the Static ability, the chance of finding wild Electric types will increase.

This ability offers the same field effect as that of Suction Cups.

When a Pokemon with No Guard leads the party, the encounter rate of wild Pokemon increases by 1.5 times.

When the Pokemon with Illuminate is placed on the first slot of the party, the chance of encountering a Wild Pokemon doubles.

If you lead the party with a Pokemon that has the ability Flame Body, the base egg steps count for the egg will be halved.

Honey Gather

This ability has a chance to activate outside of battle. After defeating a wild Pokemon, the Pokemon that has this ability may obtain the Honey item if it does not have a held item prior to the battle.
