Natures
When catching Pokemon, you’ll notice that not all Pokemon are the same. Each of them have different natures which then change the stats that grow along with them. These are one of the factors that also affect the individual values of the Pokemon. Different natures mean they specialize in different stats. Depending on the nature of the Pokemon, some Pokemon may have a more favourable nature than the other. For example, Chandelure works best with a Modest Nature due to it favoring Special Attack which is most of Chandelure ‘s move set.
However, the nature doesn’t only affect one stat. It affects two stats with one raising up faster while sacrificing the other. But, there are some natures that don’t affect the growth at all making them more dependent on the EVs.
Mechanics
Because each Pokemon has a particular nature, they also have a particular flavor of choice. The selection is as follows:
- Attack – Spicy
- Defense – Sour
- Sp. Atk – Dry
- Sp. Def – Bitter
- Speed – Sweet

Inheriting Personalities
From the old generation games, players only had a 50% chance of the baby inheriting the favored trait of the parent. However, equipping the Everstone to one of the parents can make Pokemon breeding easier. If you breed two Pokemon with one parent having an Everstone equipped to it, the baby Pokemon will have a 100% chance of inheriting the parent holding the Everstone’s nature. This method of fixing personalities onto Pokemon allows players to maximize certain stats especially for the competitive scene.
