Game Overview
The Pokemon (short for Pocket Monsters) franchise is one of the most beloved works in video games, giving rise to a collection of other media which includes various tv shows, movies, collectible toys and a popular card game throughout the years.
The franchise is about mysterious creatures called Pokemon that are encountered throughout the series’ fictional world. Pokemon Trainers raise and train them to take part in Pokemon Battles to prove their prowess and achieve fame glory throughout the land. Outside of competition, Pokemon are seen as companions and friends, and learn to live in harmony with people. Currently, there are 802 known fictional species of Pokemon which have appeared in various games, media and merchandise.
Since the release of Pokemon Red and Blue in North America (1996) for the Nintendo Game Boy, the portable game franchise has developed a massive following as each game in the series introduces improved features and of course, new Pokemon
Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon were announced worldwide on June 6, 2017 (11pm, JST) via Nintendo Direct, Nintendo’s online news streaming service. They are considered the second paired versions of Pokemon‘s Generation VII with an alternate storyline from the original Pokemon Sun and Moon games.

Game Officially Announced on Nintendo Direct (June 7, 2017)
Nintendo formally announces the latest entry to the Pokemon series of portable games during its Nintendo Direct online news event on June 6, 2017. The title, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon, will be an alternate adventure of Generation VII that introduces new Pokemon, characters and other features.

New Legendary Pokemon Forms in Ultra Sun and Moon
- Alternate Forms of Solgaleo and Lunala
With Nintendo’s announcement of Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon on Nintendo Direct (June 6, 2017), it was revealed that the legendary Pokemon from Pokemon Sun and Moon have new designs. It is heavily speculated that the mysterious Pokemon Necrozma has somehow fused with them, as seen with Solgaleo and Lunala’s new black crystalline armor.
- Alternate Form Behavior and Abilities from Necrozma (?)
It is currently not known how this will affect each legendary Pokemon in terms of their behavior and abilities, though it is reasonable to assume that they may have inherited a part of Necrozma’s powers – most likely even more powerful Psychic abilities (as both Solgaleo and Lunala are part-Psychic).
New Features
- New Story Adventure
Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon is said to offer a new adventure for players. Old events from the original Pokemon Sun and Moon may reappear, though the story may provide deeper focus on Solgaleo and Lunala and some explanation about their new appearance in the game.
- New Characters
With Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon following an alternate story from the original Pokemon Sun and Moon, it is expected that there will be new characters to meet throughout the game. And while there is no word of any new Rivals, Trials Captains or Island Kahunas to be introduced, we’re likely to be in for some very cool surprises. It’s also unconfirmed if the hero character will be the same as the original game.
- New Outfits
From the Nintendo Direct announcement video, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon will likely have more outfits that players can wear to customize their characters in the game.
There are likely more items and decorations included in the game as well, allowing players to decorate their home or base with various ornaments and knickknacks.
