Walking Pokemon, Wingull Follows
In the trailer for the new Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon, we were shown that Wingull following the main protagonist while he was running. The walking Pokemon, or rather flying Pokemon seems to follow its trainer’s direction. We aren’t too sure if Wingull followed him because he’s the trainer, or if Wingull was just there coincidentally. But we do know for sure that in the previous versions of Pokemon, your Pokemon does indeed follow you compared to the other versions of the game that just keeps them inside of their Pokeballs. We aren’t sure as well if there are any walking Pokemon interactions besides having to let your Pokemon walk beside you.
Evidence in Previous Versions
The previous versions of the game that showed that their Pokemon was walking beside them were the Pokemon Yellow version of the game. Then Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver followed through in 2009 but sadly, after those two versions, the pet-following soon seized to continue.
This is highly possible though as this has been done before and there have been reports that there were unused walking Pokemon animations from all the Pokemon in the latest generation of the Pokemon franchise.
Possible Reasons Why it Was Seized
You might be wondering why they seized such an awesome feature back in their previous versions after HearGold and SoulSilver. This might be primarily due to the difficulty of the animation of needing to add another moving character to the whole animation. Not only that, but this would suggest having to put all of the Pokemon with a unique walking and running animation to accompany their trainer.
This might be the reason as to why they stopped the follow action as well as the Nintendo 3DS coming into the Pokemon franchise. And since they have already stabilized the whole thing, the walking Pokemon feature might already be underway.
