Among the most advantageous effects of having a high Legend level is instilling fear in enemies. Weak foes, for instance, will fall down in terror and beg for their lives upon seeing you, making them easier to kill. Note that tougher enemies may require higher Legend levels or may not back down from fighting you at all.

  1. Hi I’m not sure how this happened bu I skipped the demon blade up rank it took me straight to phantom samurai after maxing out the avenging guardian

  2. I think the legend level might depend on how often you break the samurai code. I accidentally assassinated someone and got an additional cutscene of your uncle talking about the code, not the story one you can’t avoid but an additional one. Now my legend rank is shadow samurai.

    • The rank isn’t based on the code breaking but how large your legend grows is from doing more and more things around Tsushima. If it were based in breaking the code, everyone would have maxed out probably by the beginning of act two. The additional cutscene is there to remind Jin of what he’s doing and why it is dishonorable to the ideals of a samurai, with the unskippable one being based on what you couldn’t control, and the shorter one you get from the first non story related assassination based on what you could control, further nailing home how you’ve had to go from samurai to effectively The Predator in Ancient Japan in order to effectively defeat the mongols. They likely intended for people to get this later in the game when the samurai approach becomes less and less useful against the later enemies, but even then it’s still pretty effective in its message.
