Strategy

The nova can be upgraded to a seismic nova. This means that you can prime them for combo detonations. However, armored and shielded opponents are unaffected by these.

You can use detonators like charge, throwlance, and the like to create a biotic combo. 

For an adept build, this will be your main damaging skill. Upgraded with damage and force, anti-armor, and shield-powered, this skill will devastate your foes in the battlefield. With the shield-powered upgrade, you can use this skill until your shields are drained.
