Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice - Basic System Mechanics

The basic system mechanics of Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice. Also includes an explanation for each mechanic found in the game.

Basic System Mechanics

Posture

Basic System Mechanics

Both the hero and the enemy will have a “posture gauge.” This posture gauge can be filled by parrying attacks. Once the enemy’s gauge is full, Sekiro can then perform a deathblow which instantly kills the enemy, no matter their HP.

Alert Level

Basic System Mechanics

This marker indicates how alert an enemy is to the player. If an enemy’s sign is gray or yellow, it is easier to deal an instant kill attack.

Color Indication
Gray Beginning to notice peculiar movements
Yellow Starting to look for the player
Red Engaging in combat

Sculptor’s Idol

Basic System Mechanics

Similar to the bonfire in the Dark Souls series, the Sculptor’s Idol can be used to recover health and act as a checkpoint.

Resurrection

Basic System Mechanics

A system where the hero can resurrect himself by consuming a gauge filled up by defeating enemies. Resurrection can be done at any time, so use this mechanic strategically.
