Final Fantasy VII Remake Intergrade (FF7 Remake: Intergrade) takes us across Midgar City yet again in an enhanced and amplified version of the award-winning title coming out on the PlayStation 5 this June 10th, 2021. This improved iteration of the game includes the new Episode INTERmission story section as well as a modern take on the classic Fort Condor mini-game found in the original 1997 release.

Episode INTERmission Overview and Guide

For long-time fans of Final Fantasy 7, the return of the Fort Condor mini-game in Intergrade’s Episode INTERmission may invoke nostalgia while offering a fresh experience with its tactical tower defense and rock-paper-scissors style gameplay. Taking control of Yuffie in Episode INTERmission, players can opt to check out Fort Condor when they need a break from missions while exploring Midgar’s undercity.

Fort Condor (or Condor War as it was known in the original 1997 title) is inspired by one of Shinra Electric Power Company’s military campaigns to seize the Huge Materia found in Fort Condor, the location to which the mini-game takes its name.

Fort Condor is a strategy game where two players go head-to-head and place units on the field with the goal of destroying their opponent’s base while defending their own.

How it Works

Fort Condor Mini-Game Guide

At the start of the mini-game, you select a board that determines the number of active time battle (ATB) charges and Materia loadout available to your side. You can then place units on the field in whatever position you like.

To place a unit, you need to use ATB charges. After the units are deployed, they will automatically attack the other side to destroy the enemy base.

There are three types of roles that a unit can be assigned to fulfill. These are Vanguard, Ranged, and Defense. Each role has an advantage over another, playing out in a rock-paper-scissors mechanic that you must manage for efficiency.

Another thing to note is that you can use Materia to cast powerful spells. Each Materia orb can only be used once per match, so timing and strategy matter a lot to make the most out of their effects.

In Episode INTERmission’s story, Fort Condor is a competitive game gaining popularity in Midgar, being the talk of citizens living in the streets and undercity. Word has it that anyone who defeats the Grandmaster will win some rare Materia.

Knowing the new playable character Yuffie’s penchant for acquiring these powerful orbs of magic, Fort Condor is definitely something she would love to try and would not miss!
