Equipment in Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s various trailers and gameplay demos showcased the return of some of the original title’s weapons, armor, and items. We listed all of those featured from the E3 2015 announcement video up to the Tokyo Game Show 2019 presentations.
Weapons
Buster Sword
The iconic buster sword’s appearance in the remake came as far back as the E3 2015 announcement trailer. It is as recognizable as its wielder, Cloud, who rarely appears in media without it.
Footage of the buster sword from the E3 2019 video showed that materia equipped on weapons will be visible in the remake.
Gatling Gun
Similar to Cloud’s buster sword, Barret’s default gun arm is closely tied to his design, and quite literally in his case. The gatling gun also debuted in the E3 2015 video.
The gatling gun has an updated design with a sleeker appearance than in the original game. Because of this, the weapon now more closely resembles the assault gun and heavy vulcan.
Barett’s gatling gun was also seen with materia equipped in the E3 2019 trailer.
Hardedge
The hardedge was first shown in the E3 2019 video. With the weapon in hand, Cloud engaged the Air Buster boss with Barret and Tifa.
Metal Knuckle (?)
Tifa’s reveal in the E3 2019 trailer also featured what appeared to be the metal knuckle glove as the fist fighter’s default weapon. This is different from the original game where she started out with the leather glove upon joining the party.
It can be argued, however, that what she was wearing in the video were indeed the leather gloves, albeit with a new design. The texture of the gloves does imply that they are made out of leather.
Guard Stick
While Aerith was already featured in Sony’s State of Play 2019 video, it would not be until the E3 2019 trailer that we would see footage of her in combat. Her equipped weapon, the guard stick, was easily recognizable in the trailer.
Armor and Accessories
Image of Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s equipment and materia menu confirmed the iron bangle and power wristguards. As with the first game, materia can be slotted into armor. Accessories, meanwhile, grant various stats enhancements.
Items
Released gameplay footage, particularly in the Playstation Access demo, also featured some healing items. Potions, hi-potions, ether, and phoenix down were seen used in the videoes.
