Enemies in Final Fantasy 7 Remake
Final Fantasy 7 Remake’s various trailers and gameplay demos have already revealed a number of enemies thst eill be encountered throughout the story. Here, we have listed both the new and familiar foes featured in the Playstation Experience 2015 trailer up to the Tokyo Game Show 2019 presentations.
Regular Enemies
Security Officer
Revealed in the early Playstation Experience 2015 trailer, security officers are Shinra footsoldiers likely to be encountered in the beginning of the story. They are presumably the weakest of all enemies, as Cloud was seen easily taking down a number of them in the video. In the original game, security officers were called MPs.
Shinra Flying Drones
Unnamed airborne drones presumably made by Shinra were also confirmed in early combat footage. These are new enemies that did not exist in the first game. As seen in the TGS 2019 trailer, the mini-drones can also project a holographic image of president Shinra.
Sahagin
In Sony’s State of Play 2019 trailer, Cloud’s party battled Sahagin in what was presumably Midgar’s sewer area. These were eventually featured in the TGS 2019 trailer as well. In the latest video, Sahagin were seen casting the toad spell. The fish-like creatures were not able to do this in the first title.
Sweeper
Sweepers were first featured in the State of Play 2019 trailer, eventually being included in almost all subsequent gameplay footage. This implies that, as with the original game, they will be encountered frequently throughout the story.
Head Hunter
An enemy that resembles the head hunters from the original game was also shown in the State of Play 2019 trailer. Its appearance also marked the first footage of Cloud’s cross slash limit break in the remake.
Grunt
The frog-like Grunt debuted in A Symphonic Reunion 2019 trailer. It is assumed that the enemy will retain its claw and beam gun attacks from the original version. They are also expected to be quite agile, as seen in the video.
Monodrive
Monodrives were also featured in the A Symphonic Reunion trailer and the 2019 exclusive playable demo. In the latter, they were encountered on the way to the Scorpion Sentinel boss in the reactor 1 area.
Eligor
A rare enemy called the Eligor was revealed alongside the summon Shiva in the TGS 2019 trailer. It was found in what looked like the train graveyard, which stays loyal to its appearance in the original game.
Bosses
Scorpion Sentinel
Previously known as the guard scorpion, the scorpion sentinel was the first boss revealed in the Playstation Experience 2015 trailer. It would not be until Square Enix’s E3 2019 presentation that a demo of the boss battle would be showcased. Certain mechanics of boss battles were revealed in the event, including usable objects, attacking different parts of the boss, and staggering.
Abzu
Combat footage against the Abzu was shown in the E3 2019 demo as well. The Abzu, called Aps in the original title, was fought in what looked like Wall Market’s sewer area. The Abzu fight reappeared in Square Enix’s TGS 2019 presentation to introduce the game’s redesigned summon system.
Air Buster
The Air Buster was first featured in the E3 2019 trailer, appearing at what is presumably the sector 5 area. In the video, a timer was seen above the screen during the fight. This was likely the countdown for the bomb planted by Cloud and his party. It is worth noting that there was no timer during the boss fight in the first game.
Heavily-armored Shinra Machine
In the TGS 2019 trailer, a gigantic machine enemy engaged Cloud’s party in what might be the path to the sector 5 reactor. Assumed to have been made by Shinra, the enemy does not resemble anything found in the first game.
Reno
A boss battle against Reno was revealed in the TGS 2019 trailer. The rod-wielding turk was fought at the sector 7 pillar in the original game. In the remake, however, Reno was fought immediately after he appeared in the slum’s church.
As seen in the video, Reno is a nimble adversary. He can unleash powerful surges of electricity using his weapon for massive damage.
Rude
The TGS trailer also showcased a boss fight against Rude, a fist-fighting turk. As with Reno, the encounter with Rude has been altered in the remake. He was fought in the slums as Cloud and Aerith fled from Shinra troops. In the original game, the party first clashed with Rude, alongside Reno, at Gongaga.
Rude has been seen to be able to deflect the player’s attacks. He can also grab enemies by their legs and hurl them at their allies, based on the video. The attack does damage to both party members.
