What is Fishing
Like in the previous installments of Pokemon, fishing is a feature that returns in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon using the Fishing Rod. The Fishing Rod can be obtained after completing the Lana’s Water Trial in Akala Island
Types of Fishing Rod
There are a variety of Fishing Rods to use when Fishing, namely the standard Fishing Rod, Old Rod, Good Rod and the Super Rod. However since the introduction of Sun and Moon there has only been one kind of Fishing Rod that is usable by now.
This change to the Fishing Rod makes it less complicated, simplifying out the Pokemon and items that can be caught depending on Fishing Rod type.
About Fishing Spots
There are specific locations where you can fish in Ultra Sun and Moon. Fishing Spots can be located in areas like the seaside or ponds. Approaching any available Fishing Spot will prompt to press the A Button to begin fishing.
Also there are instances where bubbles and splashes will appear on the fishing spot. (There are some exceptions to this.)
Bubble Spot
Bubble Spots have a chance of appearing when fishing. They increase the rates of finding rare Pokemon.
However if you move too fast around it, the bubble spot will disappear and you would need to re-enter the Route to access it.
Splashes
Splashes may occur in some cases. Although they are easily mistaken as Bubble Spots, you can’t fish on splashes.
Upon approaching Splashes it’ll initiate a battle with a Pokemon.
Places where Splashes Occur
- Brooklet Hill(First Visit)
- Hanohano Beach
- Poni Island
Fishing on Lapras
Lapras is an available Ride Pokemon that you can take to the ocean to fish with. Although Sharpedo is available as a Ride Pokemon, you can’t fish with them. Take caution when approaching a Bubble Spot with Lapras as they easily disappear.
Fishing Characteristics
Fishing has its own chances of failing to get anything. In the chance you are unable to get anything, the game will inform you of it. However, chances of success is raised if you use Pokemon with the ability of “Sticky Hold” and “Suction Cups”.
- Pokemon with the ability of Sticky Hold:
└ Grimer, Gulpin, Accelgor - Pokemon with the ability of Suction Cups:
└ Octillery, Cradily, Malamar
