Uploaded from the Official Pokemon Youtube Channel VOD on the 22nd of September, 2017, there are multiple Pokemon species reveals. This is likely a nod to the changes that Trainers last saw during the transition from Pokemon Black & White versions to Pokemon Black 2 & White 2. In those previous titles, it revealed a high influx of Pokemon previously non-native to Unova.

In the reveal trailer, the following Pokemon were shown: Tropius, Larvesta, Mareep, Larvitar, Zorua, Houndoom, and Manectric. To break it down, 3 come from the Johto Region, 2 from the Hoenn Region, and 2 from the Unova Region. It is odd that at the moment there were no Sinnoh natives shown during the trailer. Still, it is likely that the selection for more than 400 Pokemon revealed is arbitrary.

Not to be confused with the Island Scan feature, this roster introduces Region natives which carry the unique indicator of the Alola marking.

Following the version differences, certain Pokemon only appear on specific Versions. At the moment, Trainers of Ultra Sun get to snag Alola Sandshrew while Ultra Moon Trainers can catch Alola Vulpix. In addition, the expanded dex will include Houndoom and Manectric, these critters will be exclusive to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon respectively.

Judging from sneak-peek, this can shape the Team compositions for trainers progressing through the Story. One of them is Larvitar who can grow to become the fearsome Tyranitar. In case Ultra Sun and Moon will preserve the Elite 4’s types, this will be effective against the Ghost and Flying type members.

In terms of the competitive aspect, this will twist the usage statistics in favor of Pokemon that can replace the standard choices. Staple Pokemon include those with Intimidate, or run auto-weather with Drizzle and Drought. The Ultra Beasts shown in the Nintendo Direct may also impact the species selections. In retrospect, the top picks consist of Ultra Beasts Kartana and Celesteela, whose typing form great synergy with the Tapus thanks to their part-Steel typing.

In the competitive aspect, Volcarona, Tyranitar, and Manectric have gained some usage whereas the rest have not. There is still a possibility to accommodate them since the recent format included had major changes.

With this in mind, be sure to give some time for Rotomdex to rest as it will be an arduous task to record all 400 species!
