What are Rating Battles?
Through Rating Battles, you can battle another player online and earn points that will determine your rank in the game. Your rank will depend upon your win-loss record. After registering your game (either Ultra Sun or Ultra Moon), you’ll be able to use the PGL website to view your current rank. Also, see how high you are in the global rankings of the game.
The opposing player that you’ll face will probably have the same rank as yours. This feature is added in order to give an even matchup for both Pokémon trainers. There are also three new battle formats being presented.
- Single Match – players can send Pokémon one at a time of the battle. This is the classic battle format seen in almost all Pokémon battles in the main games.
- Double Match – players can send out two Pokémon in battle instead. This is very similar to the Tag Battles introduced in Generation III. Although there will only be one player controlling two Pokémon in a Double match.
- Special Match – The format has special rules and will let Trainers experience battles that are different from previous two formats. Starting last November 18, players can use some Pokémon that are previously not allowed for Single and Double matches. This Pokémon could be Solgaleo and Lunala as well as Ash-Greninja (obtainable by playing the Special Demo Version), Magearna (obtainable by scanning a special QR code), and many more legendary or rare Pokémon.
The Pokémon Global Link service for Pokémon X & Y and Pokémon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire has ended on November 9, 2016. The PGL will resume its service simultaneously with the release of Pokémon Sun & Moon on November 18.
How to Create an Account for Pokemon Global Link
In order to create a Pokémon Global Link account, you would need a Game Sync ID.
In the case of Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, you can obtain a Game Sync ID by connecting your game to the internet via Player Search System (PSS). Once you’ve connected to the PSS, you can press the start button to open up the folder option. Then you would find the “Game Sync Icon” once you’ve scrolled to the right. By pressing the Game Sync Icon, it will automatically show your Game Sync ID consisting of 16 characters.
You will then need to input your Game Sync ID upon registering for the PGL, and once you’re done registering, you can now use your PGL account and enjoy competing against other Trainers in Rating Battles!
What is the “Your Time” System
The “Your Time” System is an additional feature of the battle system in order to make the matches faster and more exciting. By turning on the system, players are given 60 seconds per each turn to pick a move. Then use an item, or to switch to another Pokémon. In addition, there are also 10 minutes given for each player to finish the match. Once the 10 minutes run out for one Trainer, he/she loses the match. A player receives an award for the extra 10 minutes if they follow the rule of choosing a move for only 60 seconds. Losing a battle due to time running out is almost impossible only if you follow the system’s rules.
New Rules for Pokemon World Championships 2017

What are the additional rules for WCS 2017:
- The “Double Battle” is now limited to Pokémon that appear in the Alola Region Pokedex, excluding some Mythical or Legendary Pokémon.
- Mega Stones cannot be used in official battles. Players will not be able to use Mega Evolution for Pokémon holding a Mega Stone.
