First off, what are Legendary Shards? Legendary Shards are pieces you get after dismantling some Legendary or Exotic Armor. They also are the primary currency to infusing your weapons and armor. As you begin infusing your armor or weapons, players soon have a total amount of power which will allow them to tackle bigger things. And when we say bigger things, we mean things like Raids and Nightfall Strikes. However, Legendary Shards are not just for that. Some players opt to use theirs as a means to buy high level armor and weaponry from Xur.

• Dismantling your old legendary gear
  • Dismantling your old legendary gear that you don’t need can give you the shards. Sometimes, they also drop some gunsmith parts which you can bring to a gunsmith and get rep points. Depending on the level, the amount of the shards also varies.
• Increasing rep points.
  • Rep points can also bring about Legendary shards. Everytime you hit a new requirement for the merchants, they sometimes give you the shards instead of new weapons.
• Choose which gear to dismantle carefully.
  • Ideally, the best way to do this is to dismantle only the gear you have replications of.
  • Or, the gear you don’t need or don’t like is the one you should either dismantle or infuse.

Where to use Legendary Shards

Legendary Shards replaced the Strange Coin which was a currency from Destiny 1. In this case, players can use this currency to rebuy some old faction gear. This can be useful especially if you’re trying to infuse weapons and armors for Raids. Or, players can opt to use it to buy items from Xur. On the weekends, Xur provides a lot of good gear which players can use in Raids.
