Guide on How to Defeat Ghoul

The Ghoul is the tenth boss enemy faced by Cloud and his party during the “Back Amongst Friends” mission in Chapter 11: Haunted of Final Fantasy 7 Remake.

Battle Notes Switches between physical and ghostly forms. Neither magic attacks against the physical form nor physical attacks against the ghostly form have any effect on its stagger gauge. Use magic attacks against the ghostly form to rapidly fill its stagger gauge.

Ghoul Boss Abilities and Moves

1) Change Forms

Ghoul will continually shift between its ghost and physical form while engaged in battle.

2) Piercing Scream

Ghoul will scream in a wide area and stuns anyone in its range. The afflicted party member will be stuck in place and be vulnerable for 10 seconds.

3) Telekenesis

Ghoul will lift debris such as furniture, computers, and shelves in the room. Then, it will telepathically hurl these objectives to its target.

4) Balefire

Ghoul will spread purple flames on the floor and surrounding it. It will erupt into pillars of fire afterwards.

5) Phantasmic Flurry

Ghoul will charge and slash at its target using its claws. Then, silencing them. It will also spawn ghost arms around the arena.

6) Etheric Drain

Ghoul will attempt to grab one of your party members. They will be lifted in the air and receive light HP and MP damage.

Ghoul Boss Strategy

Pre-Battle Setup

  • Equip Fire Materia and Cleansing Materia to Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith.
  • Equip Healing and Magnify Materia to Aerith.
  • Equip Revival Materia and Barrier Materia to Tifa or Aerith.

1st Phase (100% HP)

Ghoul will alternate between a ghostl and physical form. In order to damage it, use Fire magic. Reserve Aerith’s Ray of Judgement ability when the Ghoul is staggered in order to deal heavy damage. If there are afflicted party members with Silence status, use Echo Mist.

2nd Phase (50% HP)

Ghoul will use new attacks this time. Avoid balefire from the boss and keep using Fire from a distance to stagger the boss. When it uses it’s Etheric Drain, look on the opposite side of the room and attack the real Ghoul. You can make this chance to stagger the boss.
