New Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trailer Revealed

Square Enix released a new trailer for the Final Fantasy 7 remake during Sony PlayStation’s State of Play broadcast. We last heard of the game at E3 2015, which was almost four years ago. The one-minute trailer featured new gameplay and story cutscenes. The latest footage of the game ended with assurance that more information will be revealed in June.

With the release of the Final Fantasy 7 remake’s latest trailer, game producer Yoshinori Kitase shared a message to fans through the PlayStation Blog:

Finally… the long awaited moment has come. Sorry to keep you all waiting so long!

We hope you enjoyed the footage shown during State of Play. It was quite short, but hopefully, you enjoyed seeing Cloud and Aerith brought back to life with such realistic graphics.

And oh my god! Did you notice he was there too…?

We are preparing to release more official information in June, but we wanted to try
something new here on State of Play by showing you this special trailer as a taste of
what’s to come.

Stay tuned for more updates about the Final Fantasy VII Remake in the future!

In addition, Tetsuya Nomura, the game’s director, made an announcement on Twitter that plans are already in place leading up to the game’s launch:

Most of the plans are already in place in the run up to launch, so please bear with us a little longer until we can release more information next month

Trailer Breakdown and Analysis

Though the trailer mostly jumps back and forth between cutscenes and gameplay footage, fans can easily recognize events and locations from the original game such as Mako Reactor 1, Mako Reactor 5, and Wall Market.

Escaping Mako Reactor #1

This particular scene has Cloud escaping Mako Reactor #1 after planting the bomb. He must quickly head to the exit before the bomb detonates.

Cloud hanging from a ledge as he escapes from the reactor is a new element introduced in the game’s remake. The original game only had him weaving through a series of passages to get out.

Winding Tunnel Battle

The combat footage shown in what looks like the Winding Tunnel featured the game’s new battle system, which looks similar to that of Final Fantasy 15. Looking at the lower right corner of the screen, you can see Tifa’s name in the active party despite her not being visible in battle.

The design of the command menu in the lower left corner of the screen is reminiscent of those found in Kingdom Hearts games. Based on the trailer, the player can assign commands to each party member. The combat footage also suggests that the player can choose to manually control any of the different characters in battle.

Mako Reactor #5 Infiltration

The later cutscenes showed AVALANCHE infiltrating Mako Reactor #5. The sizes of enemies seem to have been realized well, as various fiends appear reasonably large next to human characters.
