Pokemon League: Preparing for your Title Defense

Battling the Elite Four Again

Elite Four’s Difficulty Increases

  • After defeating the Elite Four in your initial run, their Pokemon’s levels will increase by 10 levels. This will prove to be difficult, especially if you’re running a new team towards your title defense.
  • However, if you’re planning on using your original team to defeat the Elite Four again, it is best to increase their levels up to at least 10 levels higher as well.
  • Remember to assemble a team that covers various types of the Elite Four’s Pokemon in order to defeat them easily.

Defending your Title

  • After beating the Elite Four, you will face a new trainer who you will have to defeat to defend your Pokemon League Championship. That said, the challengers to your title varies, so it is best to have a team that can take care of multiple Pokemon Types.

Time-Saving Method of Beating the Elite Four

Turning of the Battle Effect Animations

  • You can quicken your Elite Four matches by turning the Battle Effects off in the Settings. Doing so will make the Pokemon’s skills to lose its animations, but still do their effects (i.e. damage, status changes, etc.) and make turns between you and your opponent faster. For example, turning the Battle Effects will shorten the Z-Moves’ cutscenes significantly.

Assigning a Strong Pokemon against Specific Elite Four Members

  • Since the Elite Four’s team composition does not change even after subsequent run throughs, you can pick a Pokemon that is high-leveled and can cover each of the Elite Four’s weaknesses. For instance, Molayne uses Steel-type Pokemon, so it is best to use a high-level Fire-type Pokemon and use it throughout the battle so that you can beat him easily.

Recommended Pokemon to battle the Elite Four

Pokemon that have the Mold Breaker Ability

Use a high-level Pokemon that has Mold Breaker ability in order to hit enemy Pokemon with moves that normally do not hit them. For example, a Pokemon with Mold Breaker can hit Earthquake on an enemy Pokemon that has the Levitate ability.

Pokemon that have Attack, Special Attack and Speed Stat Buff Moves

Get Pokemon who can learn Swords Dance, Dragon Dance or Quiver Dance so that they can buff their stats in the early stages of the game and hit the enemies hard and fast. This is especially effective when using high-leveled Pokemon that can one-shot opposing Pokemon.

Here is a sample Pokemon Team that can breeze through the Elite Four quickly:

Mega Gyarados

Mega Gyarados

Gyarados’ Mega form grants him a Water / Dark typing, which gives it good physical stats all around. It also gains the Mold Breaker ability which can overrule other Pokemon abilities in order to get hit by its moves. For example, if Mega Gyarados uses Earthquake on a Rock-type Pokemon that has the Sturdy ability, Mold Breaker overwrites Sturdy’s effect.

It is also a very powerful Mega evolution that can learn Dragon Dance, which synergizes well with its damaging Physical Attack moves such as Waterfall, Crunch and Earthquake.

Haxorus

How to get Haxorus

Haxorus is a strong Dragon type Pokemon that has high Attack stats. It can use Dragon Dance to increase its Attack and Speed tremendously and dish out powerful attacks such as Dual Chop or Dragon Claw against its opponents.

It also has the Mold Breaker ability, which makes its attacks bypass enemy Pokemon’s abilities.

Excadrill

excadrill

Excadrill is a Ground / Steel Pokemon that cannot be caught in Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon. However, you can ship it to the game via Pokebank.

Just like Mega Gyarados and Haxorus, it can also have the Mold Breaker ability. Aside from this, Excadrill also has strong Attack stats and hard-hitting Steel and Ground-type moves which enable it to hit enemies with much force. This includes STAB Earthquake, Iron Head, Swords Dance and Rock Slide.

Pheromosa

pheromosa

Pheromosa is an Ultra Beast that is available in Pokemon Moon or Ultra Moon. It has extremely high Attack and Speed Stats to go with its Bug / Fighting type, making it a good cover Pokemon against some types.

It has access to Quiver Dance, which raises its Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed. This allows it to deal STAB damage with more power, especially against Pokemon type it is strong against.
