According to the Official Pokemon Youtube Channel, the trailer shows a glimpse of the possible names for the main protagonists. One example is through the reveal of the event exclusive Rockruff. Upon inspection, it is likely that Ray is the male trainer, and Ailey is the female counterpart. This makes sense because Ray which is the OT for the Rockruff on the Sun Version takes elements from previous games. Ray in this case may allude to the Sun’s “Rays.” Similar to the debut of the Female protagonist in Leaf Green, despite lacking an appearance in the anime’s Advance generation, the community decided to stick with Leaf.

Ultra Sun and Moon Protagonists Names Revealed for the female trainer, is likely to be Ailey as the Rockruff on the Ultra Moon version bears its OT. In comparison to Ray, the female trainer requires some understanding of its name etymology. This name seems to trace Irish roots which translates to Light. In this case, Light may be a reference to Diamond and Pearl’s female protagonist, Dawn whose Japanese name is Hikari or in english “Light.” With Lunala being captured by Necrozma, and its name transforms into Dawn Wings form, there is evidence that this is probably the canon name of the female protagonist.
