Final Fantasy 7 Remake is Best of Show at E3 2019

Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Square Enix’s highly-anticipated re-imagining of the acclaimed title, has won the Game Critics’ Award for Best of Show at E3 2019. The title was also declared Best Console Game and Best Role-Playing Game during the event.

The game beat out Borderlands 3, Doom Eternal, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, The Outer Worlds, and Watch Dogs: Legion in the category. It is also the only one among the nominees to be developed by a Japanese company.

For the Best Console Game, Final Fantasy 7 Remake took on Luigi’s Mansion 3, The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, and Watch Dogs: Legion.

Final Fantasy 7  Remake also upstaged rivals in the Best Role-Playing Game category. The other titles were Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, Monster Hunter World: Iceborne, Pokemon Sword and Shield, and The Outer Worlds.

With three awards claimed, game publisher Square Enix bagged the highest number of wins at the event. The company is trailed by Bethesda and Activision who both had two wins apiece. Bethesda’ Doom Eternal won Best PC Game and Best Action Game. Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Destiny 2 from Activision were declared Best Online Multiplayer and Best Ongoing Game respectively.

The Game Critics Awards is an annual post-show event that gives recognition to various products presented at E3. The awards have taken place since E3 1998. This year, 64 global media and influencer outlets voted for the best products displayed at the event.
