The Sub Mission A Desperate Retreat takes William on a quest to follow the trail of Ii Naomasa deep into an enemy-infested area.
Sub Mission – A Desperate Retreat Walkthrough
When the mission begins, check the corpse nearby for a Large Spirit Stone. Then, head for the path ahead where there will be two enemies waiting ahead. You can try to bait the one without a hand cannon and hide back in the rocks where the first corpse was. When he comes here, kill him so you won’t have to worry about his ranged companion aiming at you. Once the first is dead, kill the other one.
As you continue past where the first two enemies where guarding, another enemy with an axe will appear. Take him on and parry him since he has a really slow swing. When he’s dead, proceed further ahead and kill the next enemy wielding a sword.
When you get past the last enemy, there will be two more each positioned on the opposite sides of a big rock formation. You can take out both with a ranged weapon, or bait one and engage it in close quarters then kill the other. Take note that the one on the rock’s left side will have a firearm.
Once you’ve taken them both out, there will be one more enemy in the distance as you come out of the flooded section and into the grassy field of the map. Engage him and proceed to the path ahead. Approach the corpse on the right, but watch out for the enemy that will run towards you and to the left of the rock, a ranged enemy. Take out the enemy with the sword first, then the one with the ranged weapon. Afterwards, loot the corpse for Masakari Axe.
From the corpse, hug the wall on the right until you see the path that leads to the next area. Follow it and it will lead you to Ii Naomasa. Talk to him. Then loot the corpse in the middle of the field for Sacred Water. There will also be a shrine on the upper right of where Naomasa is resting. Heal, then head for the path on ahead past the shrine.
Follow the path until you come to an open field again. Before proceeding further, you can try to take out the enemies in the distance with a ranged weapon, which will alert the others. You will be engaged by a spearman, a swordsman, an enemy with a hand cannon and a towering samurai with an axe.
One strategy to employ is to run up to the enemy with the hand cannon first and take him out. Then, manage the fight with the four enemies, paying particular attention to the samurai with the axe as he can really dish out damage. You can try to work them into the tight path you came from so they can’t surround you and manage your strikes when you see a chance. Eventually, they will fall one by one and the mission will be completed. After you’ve killed them all, the mission will be completed. Before exiting, loot the corpse to find Foreigner’s Armor: Kote (arms). Then, talk to Ii Naomasa at the exit back to the tight passage to end the mission.
