Totem Pokemon
Totem Pokemon are pokemon on the different islands and serve as the main boss of each trial. After accomplishing a certain task given to you by the Trial Captain, the Totem Pokemon will emerge and engage you in battle. Unfortunately, the Totem Pokemon cannot join your party. Players must defeat the Pokemon in order to gain the sticker and to proceed further into the story.
Each of the Pokemon have a different specialty depending on their Trial Captain and trial. One example is Trial Captain Lana‘s pokemon – Araquanid. Though originally, in Pokemon Sun and Moon, Wishiwashi served as the totem for her trial. However, Pokemon Ultra Sun and Moon made a few adjustments to who the Pokemon are.

Melemele Island
Melemele Island has two different Pokemon. If the player is playing Pokemon Ultra Sun, they’re opponent will be Gumshoos. If playing Pokemon Ultra Moon, it will be Alola Raticate.

Akala Island
Akala Island has three different trials under Lana, Kiawe, and Mallow respectively. The three Trial Captains represent three different elements along with three different trials: water, fire, and grass.

Ula’ula Island
Ula’ula Island is the third island that only has two Trial Captains: Sophocles and Acerola. However, Sophocles also has different Totem Pokemon. If playing Pokemon Ultra Sun, you fight Vikavolt. Togedemaru is the Totem Pokemon of Sophocles in Pokemon Ultra Moon.

Poni Island
Poni Island in Pokemon Sun and Moon originally didn’t have a Totem Pokemon. But now with Trial Captain Mina rising to the plate, she now reveals a new trial pokemon for the protagonist to fight.
