A quick Sub Mission that might take some time to master even at moderate levels. Although the boss battle might seem like a repetition of the 4th Mission’s, the Boss seems to be a more tough contender this round.

Although Tachibana Muneshige might sport the same pattern as before, that one thing that stands out during this Sub Mission is his katana – which is now lightning endowed. Be wary of his stances, as one small error can spell doom in an instant.

When Muneshige draws his Iai skill, it might vary but unfortunately Blocks don’t work for the most part, and even with dodging, these require more strict timing. The best measure is to determine the time he is about to finish his charge. Avoid dodging early since he will continue lunging at you. A well-timed dodge at a manageable range makes him exposed for some beating.

Apart from his charges, he also demonstrates his a couple of sword spins to endow a property, which connects with a swinging combo. Fortunately, blocking is possible this time, but don’t attempt to use it since you cannot withstand that amount of damage to continue blocking, thereby exposing you for a grapple. Do quick backsteps until he almost finishes his attack, and then immediately retaliate to whittle him down.

Since he’s human, depleting his Ki is his downside, this leaves him open for stuns or grapples or a finisher. Perform a combo of light attacks, or a powerful heavy attack quickly after he has just finished consuming some of his Ki, to completely deplete his gauge. Get more attacks in, then step back then allow him to attempt another strike in. Always make sure there’s room to maneuver at the back.

He is capable of calling upon the Guardian Spirit – Raiken to transform his katana into the lightning element. This is troublesome given that as he dashes, it causes dangerous paralysis, which allows you to be prone to his lethal attacks. Take cover from lightning attacks as much as you can to avoid succumbing to the effects of sluggish movements.

Don’t be too greedy with the combos which might expose you to his attacks once he gets his bearings. On the contrary, land some light attacks is a safer bet since you have some Ki on hand to perform quick dodges the moment you need to use them. Never allow him to fully deplete your Ki since this leaves him with a free grapple.

Endurance makes it possible to come on top during this upgraded Boss Battle. Effectively allowing Muneshige to come in and missing his attacks in order to receive Ki depleting damage is the best way to go. Of equal importance is to capitalize on attacks that expose him to grapples or shoving him to the floor for a ground finisher can sap some of his HP too.

    • this quest is really tough… Tried a few times at level 30, 40,50 and finally managed to beat him later… But yeah, good luck if you want to clear this one when you unlock it.

      • Just got through the fight on unlock.

Esentially you need to take into account 2 things:

        1) His quickdraw skill is the one you gotta learn to roll away from. If your distance is already OK when he sheathes his sword just run away and let him swing at the air.

        2) Bait him to attack you between combos/non-sheathes attacks. If you’re using a katana, whenever one of his combo is done, go for a quick jab with R1. It should bait him into redoing another combo, often the same one he previously did. Repeat until his Ki is empty, go in for a quickjab and crit him when he’s down.

This fight is all about distance, stay as far as you can if you’re not feeling like you can bait his combos properly, even if it means he’ll regen his ki, patience is better than death.
