Origins
Fionn Mac Cumhail is the leader of the Knights of Fianna. He is also known for his beauty which got him into trouble a lot of times. As the king of Erinn, he didn’t live the same way kings would. Fionn would often operate quietly, performing hunts and having a old fashioned moot with his fellow knights. One of his greatest achievements involved slaying the Divine Spirit Aillen, a magic board, and eventually – his own ancestor, Nuadha.
However, his biggest troubles were not exactly the creatures he had to kill. Fionn had terrible luck with women in which he first flirted with two sisters to receive a curse. This continued on for seven years and even until his marriage with Grainne. From there, his own volatility got the best of him especially when he found out that Grainne had coerced Diarmuid into eloping with her.
Despite this, he also somehow bore a grudge and let Diarmuid die. His hands had a special ability: any water drunken from his hands will instantly heal wounds. But his grudge towards Diarmuid let him open his hands and drain the water before he got to the dying knight. It was then this marked the fall of the Fianna as he too lost his former calm and collectiveness as a king.
Perhaps, the problem with him wasn’t the women but more himself. “What went wrong?” This is a question he almost never asks himself. Hence, he shows no inclination to look back and learn from his mistakes. In the Holy Grail War, he is summoned during his prime but has the memories of everything that had happened to him. Unlike other kings however, he has no qualms of serving under someone.
