Brynhild

Brynhild is an event Lancer class servant that recently appeared in Fate Grand Order (NA). As a Lancer class servant, she is strong against Archers and weak against Sabers. She is also one of the few Lancers in FGO that have a Buster Noble Phantasm asides from Romulus, Karna, and Elisabeth Bathory (Lancer). She is capable of increasing the power of her Noble Phantasm, making her extremely fearsome when fighting against Archer class bosses.

Strategy

  • Brynhildr has 2 Quick Cards, 2 Buster Cards, and 1 Arts card in her hand. When using Brynhildr, she can either go Buster Build or Quick Build.
    • Others have tried performing an NP build in which she needs an NP gaining craft essence or a Starting NP craft essence.
  • Brynhildr focuses more on single enemies, making her quite recommended against bosses. However, her skill that slays those with the Brynhildr’s Beloved trait makes her more a Servant-Killer.
  • Her Mana Burst ability can also help her work well with Buster Craft Essences such as Verdant Sound of Destruction.
  • Hero’s Bridesmaid works well with servants who are prone to gathering many Critical Stars. Servants such as Jing Ke, Hassan of the Cursed Arm can improve the critical hits of she or one of her allies.
  • Elisabeth Bathory can also reduced the defense of enemies, allowing Brynhildr to deal more damage.

Best Equipment

  • Art of Death expands on Brynhildr’s abilities to damage all kinds of enemies. While the Brynhildr’s Beloved Trait does not apply to all servants, the Art of Death craft essence will keep Brynhildr’s damage consistent.
  • Joint Recital works well with Brynhildr’s Mana Burst, allowing her to deal more damage along with her noble phantasm.

Origins

Brynhild, a viking and one of the valkyries, ushers the souls of the great heroes into the halls of Valhalla. People consider her as a shield maiden in Norse mythology. Brynhild also goes by the name Brunhilde and is the daughter of Budli. She is the main character in the epic of Volsung and sometimes appears in other Eddic poems.

In Volsung, Odin asked her to decide between two kings. However, she knew that Odin favoured one over the other. Thus, she then chose to side against Odin’s choice. This enraged the old god and had him condemn her to the life a mortal woman. Odin trapped Brynhild in a temple surrounded by a ring of fire. Only then, if a man would ride through the flames, he would set her free. That man soon came in the form of Siguor. While they fell in love, he soon had to leave and promised that he would return. But instead of returning for her, he instead married Gudrun. She however married Gunnar after using Siguor’s shape to pass through the flames.

As time passed, Brynhild and Gudrun soon got into a fight as to whose husband was better. While she proclaimed that Gunnar rode through the flames for her, Gudrun dropped that Siguor was the one. The magic potion wore off and Siguor tried to appease her. In a fit of rage, Brynhild killed him and his son. But she, engulfed by guilt, committed suicide soon after and followed him into Hel.
