Origins

Belongs to the oldest epic poem, “Beowulf” which took place south of Sweden.

His tale is divided into two, the first section follows Beowulf’s journey, accompanied by his 15 followers to hunt down the giant Grendel.Upon taking out Grendel, it is said that Beowulf’s desire for combat was shifted to a drive to acquiring solitude.

On the other hand, the second section set 50 years later, pits Beowulf and his comrade Wiglaf against a relentless fire dragon. Although the former’s energy was unfortunately sapped by the dragon’s poison, he left his dying wish to his disciple that he may “use the treasure for the sake of the people.”
