Origins

Ryougi Shiki descends from a line of demon slayers. Her family, the Ryougi family, are capable of splitting their personality. Thus when they are given a name, one kanji depicts one personality and the second depicts the second half. While her parents are unnamed, she has a brother – Kaname Ryougi. Because of his inability to manifest a second personality, she became the heir to the family business and also began her training.

She spoke to her grandfather who taught her about the concept of death. This further shaped her notion of life and death. However, Shiki’s family retired from demonslaying in 1995. They became landowners and continued learning traditional Japanese arts. Despite this, she has a strong impulse and desire to kill.
