Monster Hunter World: Iceborne - Brachydios Monster Guide

Brachydios is a brute wyvern with highly-developed forelimbs and a hammer-like horn on its head. It mainly fights with its slime-coated fists, able to throw out bone-crushing blows at its enemies. Those hit by its attacks are smeared with slime which explodes after a period. Brachydios can reapply the substance by licking its fists. It can also perform a powerful leaping punch to create a large shockwave on the ground.

Strategy

Physical Defense

Since Brachydios does not have any elemental attacks, it is recommended to stack as much physical defense as possible against it. Have your armor’s defense maxed out at the smithy. You can also eat a fish platter at the canteen before heading out to further reduce physical damage.

Mantles

The vitality and temporal mantles will be very useful when up against Brachydios, especially if you happen to step on its slime just before it explodes. Brachydios’ jumping attacks also have deceptively long reach. Having either of the two mantles will help you survive if you get hit.

Dash Juice

Mobility is important when fighting the relentless Brachydios. This is especially true when it is enraged, giving almost no time for you to catch your breath. Bring some dash juice to sprint and dodge for longer periods.

Shock Traps

Immobilizing Brachydios allows you to get in a few hits. Bring shock traps to lock it in place and unload on it before it breaks free.

Evade Extender

The evade extender skill lengthens the distance you travel while dodging. It will help cover as much ground as you can to get away from Brachydios when it performs its jumping attack. Evade extender becomes even more valuable when Brachydios is enraged, since most of its attacks will cause explosions that do massive damage.

Brachydios Strategy

Wait patiently for safe opportunities to attack Brachydios. There are quite few of these, even when it is not enraged. The best chance to do so is after its jumping attack. Striking it after its horn attack is also relatively safe.

It is incredibly risky to attack Brachydios after its hook punches. The monster tends to perform the move more than once and readjusts its position quickly after every swing. Getting hit also coats you in slime. It will explode after a while or when Brachydios lands another hit, causing massive damage. Roll on the ground five times to remove it. Brachydios will also leave slime on the ground which turns red before exploding. Do not step on it to avoid getting slimed.

Get away from Brachydios when it is enraged. Its attacks will create explosions that are likely to clip you at any angle. Wait until it calms down before going on a careful offensive again.

Do not lose your guard at any time. At mid range, Brachydios can perform a quick step followed by a swipe that can knock you down. From afar, Brachydios will do a jumping attack to close the gap. Stay on the move, being mindful of your stamina throughout the fight.
