Pink Rathian

Pink Rathian is a rare variant of Rathian found in Coral Highlands. Its body and tail are extremely tough, capable of repelling most melee weapons when struck. Pink Rathian is unrelenting when hunting prey and has a wider array of attacks than a regular Rathian.

Strategy

Fire Resistance

Equip armor with good fire resistance to minimize damage from Pink Rathian’s elemental attacks. The high rank Bone and Anja armor sets are good for this. You can also eat a veggie platter at the canteen to increase fire defense.

Use Nullberies to cure yourself of fireblight if you get hit by its fireballs. You can also roll on the ground to shake it off if you forget to bring any.

Aim Carefully

Certain sections of Pink Rathian’s body are very hard. Attacking its body and any part of the tail outside the tip causes melee weapons to bounce off. This will leave you vulnerable to Pink Rathian’s counterattack. Go for its head, wings, and the tip of its tail when fighting.

Use Flashpods

You can force Pink Rathian to crash down when it goes airborne with flashpods. It will struggle to get up, giving you time to do damage it. Pink Rathian will develop resistance to flashpods with constant use, so use them sparingly.

Deploy Shock Traps

You can immobilize Pink Rathian to get in a good amount of hits by using shock traps. Like flashpods, continuous use of shock traps causes Pink Rathian to gradually become immune to them.

Bring Antidotes

Pink Rathian’s backflip attack inflicts poison. Be sure to stock up on antidotes for this. You can also find antidote herbs all around Coral Highlands to make more.

Avoiding the Backflip Attack

Watch out for when Pink Rathian pulls back and stomps both legs. This means that it will perform a backflip attack. Stay alert if you are near Pink Rathian after dodging, since it can perform a second flip while airborne.

Double Bite Attack

Pink Rathian can perform a double bite attack that is rather hard to dodge. Remember to wait for both strikes to miss before you retaliate.

Triple Tackle

When enraged, Pink Rathian will perform a series of three tackles that are capable of locking you if you get hit once. Focus on dodging when it does this. Getting hit by any of the first two attacks almost always sets you up for another tackle as you get up. Pink Rathian will likely finish you off if you get stunned.

Cut off Pink Rathian’s Tail

Severing Pink Rathian’s tail will reduce the range of its tail whip attack. Note that it is trickier to do this on Pink Rathian than its regular variant. This is because all other sections of its tail except for the tip are extremely tough, making most melee weapons bounce off.
