Strategy

Ice Resistance

Velkhana has a variety of ice attacks at its disposal. Stack as much ice resistance as you can by wearing the right armor. Pieces of the master Legiana armor set provide good defense against the element. Make sure to eat a veggie platter before heading out to further raise elemental resistance. It is also recommended to slot in ice resistance jewels if you are still taking too much damage from its attacks.

Mantles

The iceproof and iceproof+ mantles allow you to mitigate even more incoming ice damage. Some other useful ones are the vitality and temporal mantles, which let you survive fatal blows.

Bring Nullberies

Use nullberies to cure yourself if you are inflicted with iceblight. Velkhana is extremely aggressive, so you cannot afford to have reduced stamina recovery when fighting it.

Use Dash Juice

Dash juice reduces stamina consumption by 50 percent for four minutes. This lets you stay on the move longer to get away from Velkhana’s area-wide elemental attacks.

Velkhana Strategy

Avoid standing in front of Velkhana for too long. Most of its powerful moves, including its straight ice beam and ice mounds, can be avoided by strafing to its side. Note that Velkhana can perform a quick bite counterattack when you stay too long at its flank. Always readjust your position after getting a feel for Velkhana’s recovery times.

Watch out when Velkhana turns sideways with its tail upwards. This is the tell for its tail stab attack. Velkhana can do the move twice in a row. Dodge to the side or toward Velkhana if you are near enough. You can also block the attack with certain weapons. Be sure to wait for the second one to come out before retaliating.

Velkhana has another variation of the tail stab attack where it spins before throwing out its sharp tail.  Again, this can be avoided by dodging to its side or guarding.

When Velkhana is enraged, it will perform its spinning ice beam attack that causes multiple mounds of ice to appear around it. Avoid engaging until it calms down. Stay on the move to avoid getting caught inside the ice mounds.

Ice Beam

Velkhana’s ice beam attack can be avoided by running to the right. It has a very long range, so running away from it is not recommended. You can also do a superman dive if you cannot outrun it as it moves toward you. Velkhana tends to perform the attack after its running charge, so be ready to dodge after it sprints past you.
