Buy as many astera jerkies as you can from the provisions manager before heading out. Odogaron’s attacks inflict bleeding and can only be cured with the item or by crouching for a while.
Clouds of effluvia cover many areas of the Rotten Vale that slowly deplete your health. Bring a health booster and deploy it when fighting Odogaron to help you live through the fight.
Since Odogaron does not have any elemental attacks, you do not need to worry about elemental defenses. Eat a meat platter to boost your attack or a veggie platter to raise defense.
Odogaron is an extremely aggressive monster and should not be taken lightly. Try to wait until it throws out an attack, retaliate, and pull back. Get a feel for how many hits you can get in before Odogaron recovers and strikes again. Most heavy weapon like the hammer, great sword, and switch axe limit you to draw attacks before you need to get back on the defensive.
Any way to immobilize Odogaron helps in safely whittling down its health. You can bring shock traps to temporarily render it helpless before pushing on the attack.
Several of the Girros in area 9 will often join in the fight and even paralyze Odogaron. Use this to your advantage, though be wary as the Girros can also attack and immobilize you.
Be very careful when Radobaan or Great Girros interfere with your quest. Since Odogaron is very agile, it can easily dash out of your field of vision if it decides to attack any intruders. Its next strike may be aimed at you, so always readjust your camera in such cases.
You can shoot dung pods at intruders to force them to flee, allowing you to continue engaging Odogaron.
