Monster Hunter: World Iceborne - Velkhana

Kirin

Otherwise known as the “Phantom Beast,” Kirin’s appearance has the combined traits of ferals and mythical unicorns. They are based on the Qilin in Japanese folklore. Since they are so difficult to find, records of their ecology are scarce. When angered, they channel electricity to toughen their hide.

Strategy

Focus on the Horn

When cloaked with lightning, Kirin’s body gains the ability to deflect attacks. During this phase, Kirin will go on a rampage. Ignore all other parts and aim for the horn.

Lure it to a Better Spot

Some spots are unforgiving when dealing with Kirin since they give little space to maneuver. You need to drag Kirin out of its spot to gain advantage of the terrain.

Stun Resistance

Kirin is capable of stunning hunters that have no investment in stun resistance. By maxing it out, you can keep fighting without having to worry about it. If you’re also banking on other gems for added health or element resistance, choose a weapon that contains more slots to accommodate stun resistance.

Choose your Mantles

Changing your gear can make a huge difference when dealing with Kirin’s thunder attacks. We recommend the Thunderproof mantle since it grants full immunity to all of its skills. If you are still hunting for this gear, you can substitute a Vitality mantle in its place to absorb some damage. You can also cycle between one of the former mantles with the temporal mantle. When Kirin starts to run around violently, switch to the temporal mantle to gain some insurance.

Strike it a Few Times

Always restrain yourself from getting too greedy when dealing with Kirin. It heavily punishes players who take too long to chain their attacks. When it’s down, close in for a few strikes then back away.
