Monster Hunter World: Iceborne - Nightshade Paolumu

Nightshade Paolumu is a subspecies of Paolumu found in Wildspire Waste. It appears even more bat-like than its regular variant, sporting dark fur and a ghoulish purple face. In addition to retaining regular Paolumu’s ability to enlarge itself, Nightshade Paolumu can emit a numbing gas that puts enemies to sleep.

Strategy

Bring Energy Drinks

Nightshade Paolumu can unleash clouds of sleeping gas around the battlefield which linger for a brief time. You will fall asleep if you are exposed to the gas for too long. Stock up on energy drinks before heading out.

Without any energy drinks, you can only hope that your Palico has not fallen asleep as well to wake you up.

Be Patient

Clouds of gas can accumulate within a large area, making it harder to get close to Nightshade Paolumu if you are using a melee weapon. Be patient and wait for the clouds to dissipate. You can also lead Nightshade Paolumu to a different area to let you move around better.

Use Flashpods

When Nightshade Paolumu goes airborne, use a flashpod to force it down. You will momentarily be able to attack it without the risk of a counterattack as it tries to get up. Keep in mind that Nightshade Paolumu will gradually become immune to flashpods with constant use.

Use Shock Traps

You can press on the offense by immobilizing Nightshade Paolumu using shock traps. As with flashpods, shock traps will eventually have no effect on the monster if you continue to use them throughout the fight.

Avoiding its Aerial Spinning Charge Attack

When enraged, Nightshade Paolumu can perform an aerial charge attack that does significant damage. It winds up the move by going into the air and flying in circles three times before homing in on you. Prepare to superman dive when you see the tell to avoid taking damage.

It is recommended to take on Nightshade Paolumu in an area clear of sleeping gas when it is enraged. This is because you may accidentally dive toward a cloud of gas. Getting up from a superman dive is quite slow, so you will likely get inflicted with the sleep if you dive into the wrong spot.
