Strategy

Preparation

Stack on as much thunder resistance as you can against tempered Kirin. Its lightning bolts strike randomly and are likely to hit you at any time during the fight. Eat a veggie platter at the canteen to further enhance elemental defense.

It is important to equip thunder resistance jewels onto your armor to mitigate further thunder damage. Try to slot in paralyze resistance jewels or craft the paralysis charm as well.

Remember to bring the thunderproof and vitality mantles for better survivability.

Fill up on all healing items in your loadout and the ingredients to make them. Bring nullberies to remove thunderblight.

Kirin

Excluding arch tempered and event monsters, tempered Kirin is arguably the most difficult monster to defeat. This is because it can summon lightning bolts that randomly strike multiple points in the area. There is no reliable way to anticipate where they will appear, so you will regularly get hit.

Kirin Monster Guide

Prioritize survival over attack power. Having high thunder resistance allows you to live through a couple of thunder strikes before you need to heal yourself. You will likely go through mega potions and max potions very quickly just to stay alive.

Tempered Kirin’s speed makes it even more challenging to deal with. Limit your strikes to draw attacks if you are using heavy weapons like the great sword, hammer, or switch ax.

Regularly try to mount Kirin using jumping attacks or the clutch claw. Knocking it down is one of the few ways to attack it safely.

Stay on the move at all times and be patient. Kirin leaves very few openings for you to strike. Avoid standing in front of it to avoid its most powerful lightning attack. It is capable of taking you out at near-full health.

Note that tempered Kirin does not have as much health as other tempered monsters. Take your time chipping away at the monster’s health and you will prevail.
