Pukei-Pukei’s attacks inflict poison. Bring plenty of antidotes or gather some antidote herbs around the map.
Mounted strikes allow you to reliably do damage to Pukei-Pukei without having to chase it. You can also knock it down with your weapon’s mounted attack. Unload on it as it struggles to get up to stack on even more damage.
Recover Health with Vigorwasps
Pukei-Pukei often moves to areas with a lot of vigorwasps you can use to restore your health. Use them as much as you can to conserve potions.
Run Away from Anjanath
You are likely to encounter an Anjanath when hunting Pukei-Pukei in the main story. Since you will have very weak weapons and armor early on, do not take on Anjanath yet. Run away instead and focus on your main target. If Anjanath joins when you are fighting Pukei-Pukei, pull back first. Wait until one of them goes away before hunting Pukei-Pukei again.
Cut off Pukei-Pukei’s Tail
Pukei-Pukei’s tail whip will lose some of its range when you cut off its tail.
