Strategy
Be Patient
Nergigante is quite a challenging monster to deal with because of its extremely aggressive behavior. Watch for good opportunities to retaliate after it misses you then observe its next move. Be careful when it is enraged as it will have less recovery time after each attack, especially if you are taking it on with a melee weapon.
Stack Up on Defense
Wearing armor that improves your defense gives you a better chance of surviving Nergigante’s attacks. A full set of Legiana armor is a good choice because of its Divine Blessing skill. You can also eat a fish platter at the canteen before heading out to bolster defense. Items like armor seeds are also a big help
Beware of Follow-up Attacks
Nergigante will frequently follow-up attacks as you get up from being knocked down. This means that you can easily die in just a few hits, especially after getting stunned. To avoid this, do not get up immediately after getting knocked down. You will be in a brief state of invulnerability as you lie there to prevent Nergigante from finishing you off.
Watch the Spikes on Nergigante’s Body
The spikes on Nergigante’s body change color over time. When they are yellowish white, parts of Nergigante can be attacked normally. They will eventually turn black and harden, causing weapons to bounce off. Many of its attacks will also be enhanced upon gaining black spikes. It will, in particular, shoot out these spikes when performing any of its regular moves. This gives its attacks more range in addition to doing more damage.
Use Flashpods to Momentarily Stun It
Flashpods allow you to temporarily stun Nergigante, giving you a brief period to unload on it. It will, however, become resistant to this the more you use them. Use flashpods sparingly.
Have Earplugs and Speed Sheathing
Having the earplugs and speed sheathing skills gives you time to move after Nergigante roars. This is extremely helpful in allowing you to get away before it winds up any of its attacks.
Dodging Nergigante’s Dive Bomb Attack
When enraged, Nergigante will perform a homing dive bomb attack that deals massive damage. The best way to avoid it is by performing a sprinting dive. The move gives you a long period of invincibility so that you can ignore the damage.
Watch out for when Nergigante roars and stands on its two hind legs with its wings spread out. This is the tell for its dive bomb attack. It will then go into the air and pull back briefly before charging at you. Start sprinting after it roars, then time your dodge for when Nergigante flies by. If done correctly, you should avoid getting hit. Do not let go of the sprint button while pressing dodge or else you will perform a regular one that has a very short period of invincibility.
