Strategy
Positioning
Odogaron is very aggressive and has a variety of swift attacks at its disposal. Do not rush in recklessly as it can easily take you out in a few moves. A good strategy is to always attack it from behind. This is especially good for avoiding Odogaron’s claw attacks that cause bleeding.
Use Fast Weapons
Fast weapons like the sword and shield and dual blades have less recovery time compared to heavier weapons. This makes it easier to pull back until you see another opening to strike.
Tire it Out
When enraged, Odogaron will continuously throw out attacks with very short recovery times. Focus on dodging until it wears itself out. You can then unload on it as it tries to catch its breath.
Use the Area to your Advantage
When hunting Odogaron in the Rotten Vale, several Girros in area 9 will join in the fight. These can paralyze Odogaron. This gives you time to land a few hits before it is able to move again. Using the two paratoads found in area 10 has the same effect.
You can also get Odogaron stuck in the rubbery plant surface found in area 4 of Coral Highlands. Just lure it toward the hole in the center of the rubbery trap to immobilize it.
Bring Astera Jerkies
Odogaron’s claw attacks inflict bleeding which causes you to take damage when running, rolling, and attacking. Use Astera jerky or take cover and crouch for a moment to stop the bleeding.
