The weapon type benefits from dealing thrust-based damage along with firing blanks and explosive shells, guarding from incoming attacks through heavy shields, its high range and counter attacks, and its special move, Wyvern Fire, that deals huge explosions compared to other weapon types.

Gunlance Weapon Offensive Skills

Recommended Skill	Skill Effect
Critical Eye	Increases affinity.
Critical Boost	Increases the damage of critical hits. Synergizes well with weakness, exploit, maximum might, and critical eye skills.
Critical Element	Increases elemental damage (Fire, Water, Thunder, Ice, Dragon) when landing critical hits.
Critical Draw	Increases affinity when performing draw attacks.
Weakness Exploit	Increases affinity when attacking monster weak points.
Attack Boost	Increases attack power. Also improves affinity at higher levels.
Agitator	Increases attack power and affinity when large monsters become enraged.. Allows you to deal more damage when monster is angered.
Partbreaker	Makes it easier to break or sever parts of large monsters.
Artillery	Strengthens explosive attacks like gunlance shells, Wyvern’s Fire, charge blade phial attacks, and sticky ammo.

Guard	Reduces knockbacks and stamina depletion when guarding.
Guard Up	Allows you to guard against ordinarily unblockable attacks.
Offensive Guard	Temporarily increases attack power after executing a perfectly-timed guard.
Evade Window	Reduces knockbacks and stamina depletion when guarding.
Evade Extender	Increase evade distance.
Health Boost	Increases health.
Flinch Free	Prevents knockbacks and other reactions to small damage.
