Use Whetstones while riding your Palamute
You can mount your Palamute even during battle and use items while on the move. This allows you to evade attacks while sharpening your weapon or using healing items.

Note that this method of using Whetstones only benefit melee weapons users as ranged ones do not have a sharpness gauge.
Steps for Using Whetstones Safely

| 2 | Use the hunter command “Let me ride!” to call your Palamute and mount it. |
| 3 | Evade enemy attacks by moving sideways or away while sharpening your weapon. |
Keep in mind that you can only move while riding the Palamute. Dodging and other actions will be unavailable so pay attention to where you are going when sharpening.
If you need to create more distance from a monster, you can use dash-drift to move faster. You will, however, be unable to use items while performing the technique.
Using Recovery Items
You can also use Potions and other consumables while mounted, giving you good mobility to evade incoming attacks especially when you are one hit away from being knocked out.
