Wyvern Riding Guide
What is Wyvern Riding?
Wyvern Riding is a new feature in Monster Hunter Rise that allows you to mount and take control of large monsters in battle. You can only ride monsters after rendering them into a “mountable state” which is done through a number of different methods.
Controlling a Wyvern allows you to perform many of their unique attacks, including some of their signature moves. This allows you to deal massive damage against other monsters, especially if they are weak against your mounted monster’s elemental attacks.
Performing certain elemental moves while mounted also allows you to inflict different types of elemental blights that can give you the advantage against monsters in battle.
How to Mount Monsters for Wyvern Riding
Monsters must first be rendered into a mountable state before they can be ridden. There are numerous ways to do this which are described below.
If successful, a monster will fall down and display the “Ride Wyvern” icon, allowing you to mount it for Wyvern Riding.
Damage monsters using Wirebug jumping and Silkbind attacks.
Performing enough Wirebug jumping and Silkbind attacks will force a monster into its mountable state. This is the most straightforward way of going for Wyvern Riding. It makes heavy use of Wirebug charges so be sure to watch the gauge at all times.
Let monsters wear each other down in battle.
Monsters can also become mountable after they have suffered enough damage in combat against other monsters. Try to get in a few Wirebug attacks on the monster you wish to ride while it is busy fighting another one to get it into Wyvern Riding state faster.
Use endemic life.
You can also use various types of critters (endemic life) to force monsters to become mountable. Always keep an eye on your surroundings and try as many options as you can when you want to ride a wyvern.
Wyvern Riding Mode
The game screen will display the Wyvern Riding controls after successfully mounting the monster on the lower right corner of the screen. On the lower middle section is the Wyvern Riding timer (indicated by the diamond-shaped clock) and Wyvern Riding gauge (indicated by the bar stretching from the right of Wyvern Riding timer).
|X||Light Attack||Performs a mounted monster’s light attack.|
|A||Strong Attack||Performs a mounted monster’s strong attack.|
|B||Emergency Evade||Expends one Wirebug charge. Performing a perfect Emergency Evade increases the Wyvern Riding Gauge.|
|Y||Launch Monster||Launches the monster forward, causing it to crash into obstacles such as other monsters or walls and take damage in the process. You will be dismounted afterwards. Note that it is possible to perform multiple launches by pressing Y at the exact moment of collision.|
|X + A||Mounted Punisher||Performs a powerful attack with the mounted monster. Can only be used when the Wyvern Riding gauge is full. You will be dismounted after executing the move.|
Wyvern Riding Timer
The Wyvern Riding timer displays how much time you have left to ride the monster. Attacking enemies causes you to slightly gain more riding time while taking damage will significantly reduce what you currently have remaining.
Wyvern Riding Gauge and Mounted Punisher
The Wyvern Riding gauge is a meter that builds up as you attack other monsters or perform a perfect Emergency Evade. When full, you will be able to unleash a powerful Wyvern Riding attack called a Mounted Punisher by pressing X + A. You will automatically dismount the ridden monster afterwards.
Note that each monster has its own unique Mounter Punisher so try to Wyvern Ride different monsters to learn their characteristics and effects.
Be sure to watch for the window when Mounted Punisher is usable as the the Wyvern Riding gauge will start to gradually deplete when it is full.
