Game Overview
Game Overview
Monster Hunter: World is the latest entry to Capcom’s long-running Monster Hunter series of action role-playing games. Players once again assume the role of a hunter to explore a mysterious new world inhabited by wyverns, elder dragons, and a host of other creatures.
For the first time in the series, Monster Hunter: World features open-world gameplay across vast locations bigger than those seen in past titles. Players can craft an assortment of weapons, armor, and tools to take into the perilous wild. This can be done either alone or in hunting groups through online multiplayer.
After more than a year since Monster Hunter: World’s console release, Capcom is set to launch the game’s first major expansion called Iceborne. It is scheduled to come out on September 6, 2019 on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
Monster Hunter World: Iceborne takes hunters to Hoarfrost Reach, a strange new island covered entirely in snow. Venturing outside of Astera, the Commission sets up a new headquarters at the location. New monsters, weapons, and armor will be added to the game along with new sections of the game’s narrative.
The massive hoofed Banbaro will make its debut in the upcoming expansion. The monster uses its massive horns to ram its prey or to unearth trees and hurl them as projectiles.
Beotodus, an aquatic wyvern resembling the Jyuratodus, can swim freely in the snow and uses its sharp horn to impale its target. It can shoot large clumps of snow from afar using its strong leg fins.
Shrouded in a blanket of white frost, the Shrieking Legiana is a new variant of Legiana found in Hoarfrost Reach. It behaves differently from its normal species, preferring to freeze its prey before swooping in for the kill.
A majestic elder dragon thought only to appear in legend, Velkhana has dominion over the icy locale. It has been said to freely control the cold, freezing anything in its path. The strange migration of numerous Legiana to the Hoarfrost Reach is said to have been caused by Velkhana.
Nargacuga and Tigrex, two of the most iconic monsters in the series, will also be making a return in Monster Hunter World: Iceborne. The first mostly inhabits the Ancient Forest, while the last is commonly found in the Rotten Vale. It is expected that both wyverns will have new attacks at their disposal in addition to their signature moves from past titles.
A third monster from past games has also been confirmed. Based on the Iceborne’s trailer, it appears to be the brute wyvern Glavenus.
A new sub weapon called the Clutch Claw will also be added to the game. The weapon allows the hunter to instantly latch onto a monster, similar to a grappling hook. The Clutch Claw can be used alongside other weapons, opening up more strategies to take down monsters during hunts.
